Funeral services for Hermis Earl Janis (Tall) “Hehaka Ospula,” age 25, will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at the Wounded Knee District School Gymnasium in Manderson, SD. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Floyd Running Hawk and Lee Plenty Wolf.
Burial will be at the Wahacanka Yapi Family Cemetery, White Horse Creek in Manderson, SD.
A two-night wake service will begin at 5:00 PM on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at the Wounded Knee District School Gymnasium in Manderson, SD.
Hermis was born December 7, 1990 to Joseph Douglas Evans and Yvette Janis in Minneapolis, MN. He passed away on August 25, 2016 in Pine Ridge, SD.
Hermis is survived by father Joseph D. Evans of Lincoln, NE; wife Mahpiya Lone Elk of Oglala, SD; son Waniyetu Janis of Oglala, SD; brothers Jacob of Canada, Ali of Iraq, Bernard Yankton and Chris Janis of Manderson, SD, and Wahacanka Tall of White Horse Creek, SD; sisters Jackie Janis, Earlene Janis, Amber Tall, and Stephanie Tall, all of Manderson, SD, Ashley Bagola and Jessica Tall, both of White Horse Creek, SD, Heather “Rachel” Janis of Pine Ridge, SD, and Amanda (John) Eder of Sioux Falls, SD; aunts Donell Evans of Rushville, NE, Denise Evans of Slim Buttes, SD and Francine Broken Nose of Pine Ridge, SD; uncle Dalvin Evans of Yankton, SD; nephews Bryson Janis of Manderson, SD and Jordan Bagola of White Horse Creek, SD; grandparents Earl Tall of White Horse Creek, SD, Bernadette Jackie White Hawk of Manderson, SD and Keith Janis of Kyle, SD; great-grandfather Charlie Janis of Lakewood, CO; and numerous grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles and cousins of the Wahacanka Yapi Tiospaye.
Hermis was preceded in death by mother Yvette Janis; little brother Earl Sean Tall; sister Santana Janis; grandparents Theresa Woman Dress, Dallas Evans, and George Tall; and great-grandparents Hermis Janis Tall and Rachel Crow-Janis.
