Funeral services for Leona Beatrice Poor Bear-Little Hawk “Peta Cikala Win,” age 84, will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Pine Ridge, SD with Reverend Rhoda Mesteth, Reverend Abraham Tobacco and Senior Catechist Ben Conquering Bear officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Richard Broken Nose.
Burial will be at the Advent Cemetery in Calico, SD.
A two-night wake service will begin at 3:30 PM on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Pine Ridge, SD.
Leona was born on November 14, 1931 in Pine Ridge, SD to William George Poor Bear and Suzanne “Suzie” Star Bird. She passed away on September 9, 2016 in Pine Ridge, SD.
Leona is survived by husband Cecil Little Hawk Sr. of Calico, SD; children Loretta Little Hawk and Cecil (Mary) Little Hawk Jr. of Calico, SD, and Jane (Dan) Rodriguez Sr. of Pine Ridge, SD; grandchildren Deneshia Little Hawk, Danny (Shanna) Rodriguez, Renae Rodriguez, and Shelly Rodriguez, all of Wolf Creek Community, near Pine Ridge, SD, Missy (Melvin) Family and Bee Jay Little Hawk, both of Pine Ridge, SD, Jerrel “JJ” (Alecia) Rodriguez of Rapid City, SD, Cecil (Emily) Little Hawk III, Rosie Little Hawk, Austin Little Hawk, Kelly Little Hawk, Allison (Charles) Weston, and Mariah Weston, all of Calico, SD, and Michelle Weston and Reuben (Summer) Weston, both of Porcupine, SD; great-grandchildren Nikiya, Chaz, Lazaha, Janiya, JoDessa, Tayliah and Liri Rodriguez, Shaysie Oines, Dontae and Kaitlyn Patton, Taysean Schriener, Domonic Ghost Bear, Tianna Goings, Quincy Tallman Little Hawk, Deon, Dillon, Julian and Zoey Lewis, Christine, Jerrod and Brayton Two Bulls, Charles and Ryan Ward, and Zayne, Robert, Rylan, Emily, Sarayah and Gia Weston.
Leona was preceded in death by parents William and Suzanne “Suzie” (Star Bird) Poor Bear; brothers Robert “Bob” Poor Bear, Raymond Poor Bear and Anderson “Andy” Poor Bear; sisters Ruth Poor Bear-Hard Heart, Margaret Poor Bear and Nancy Poor Bear; children Duane Little Hawk and Evelyn Little Hawk; grandchildren Deanna Little Hawk, April Little Hawk and Johnny Joseph Rodriguez; and great-grandchild Maka Mani Rodriguez.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Leona Beatrice Poor Bear-Little Hawk.
