10/17/2016 - Carl Keith Sun Bear
Funeral services for Carl Keith Sun Bear “Mato Wi,” age 66, will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 17, 2016 at the Fire Lightening Tiospaye Building in Wounded Knee, SD. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Gerald Ice and Dave Swallow.
Burial will be at Johnson Memorial Presbyterian Cemetery in Wounded Knee, SD.
A one-night wake service will begin at 1:00 PM on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at the Fire Lightening Tiospaye Building in Wounded Knee, SD.
Carl was born on August 2, 1950 in Wounded Knee, SD to Clarence Sun Bear and Florence (Crooked Eyes) Sun Bear. He made his journey to the Spirit World on October 11, 2016 in Rapid City, SD.
Carl is survived by wife Dorothy (Rowland) Sun Bear of Wounded Knee, SD; children Delbert Sun Bear of Rosebud, SD, Willis Rowland and Rhiannon Sun Bear of Rapid City, SD, and Jesse Sun Bear, Raymond Eagle Hawk Sr., Mark Rowland, Allie Rae Sun Bear and Lana Rowland, all of Wounded Knee, SD; brother Clarence Sun Bear Jr. of Wounded Knee, SD; sisters Joyce and Alice Sun Bear of Wounded Knee, SD and Phyllis Sun Bear of Martin, SD; and 16 grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly.
Carl was preceded in death by parents Clarence and Florence (Crooked Eyes) Sun Bear; daughters Genola Rowland and Althea Sun Bear; and son Keith Sun Bear Jr.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Carl Keith Sun Bear “MatoWi.”
