Funeral services for Gaylene Agnes Tyon-Vela, age 55, will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Elementary School Gym in Pine Ridge, SD with Charles McGaa officiating.
Burial will be at the Advent Cemetery in Calico, SD.
A wake service will be at 4:30 PM on Friday, November 4, 2016 at the Elementary School Gymnasium in Pine Ridge, SD.
Gaylene was born on February 22, 1961 in Pine Ridge, SD to Sybil and James Tyon and left this earth comfortably and peacefully on her journey to heaven on November 1, 2016 at her home in Pine Ridge, SD, where she wished to be surrounded by her children, mother, and close friends.
Gaylene graduated from United Tribes in 1980 as an LPN and became a Registered Nurse in 2000, graduating from OglalaLakotaCollegeNursingSchool. She was a caring nurse for five years when she found out about her cancer. Gaylene survived another 11 years with cancer and lived life to the fullest as best she could. Her doctors told her she was a miracle as they did not expect her to live as long as she did. Her family is very thankful for the years they had with her in their lives after her diagnosis of cancer. She was a beautiful, loving, and wise woman, always helping her family any chance she could…she will be dearly missed.
Gaylene is survived by mother Sybil Hernandez of Upton, WY; spouse Jesus Vela of Pine Ridge, SD; son Jesse Tyon of Pine Ridge, SD; daughters Stepheny (Raymond) Raygoza and Jamie (Jose) Rodriguez of Pine Ridge, SD; brother David Six Feathers of Yankton, SD; sister Dora Sam of Cheyenne, WY; grandchildren James, Sara, Ricardo, Jaydin, Elijah, Kimimila, and Isaiah, all of Pine Ridge, SD; and great-grandchildren Milaunia, Juanessa, and Juan Jr., all of Pine Ridge, SD.
Gaylene was preceded in death by father James Tyon; siblings Alan Tyon, Albert Six Feathers Jr., and John Six Feathers; and grandchildren Quannah Peters and Juan LaMont.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Gaylene Agnes Tyon-Vela.
