Funeral services for Burgess Leo Bianas Sr., age 74, will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 18, 2016 at the Batesland School Gymnasium in Batesland, SD with Father Rick Abert, S.J., and Reverend Abraham Tobacco officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Cliff Waters.
Burial will be at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Rockyford, SD.
A two-night wake service will begin at 2:00 PM on Wednesday and Thursday, November 16-17, 2016 at the Batesland School Gymnasium in Batesland, SD.
Burgess was born on July 31, 1942 at his home in Rockyford, SD to Leo and Eva (Pretty Hip) Bianas. He made his journey to the Spirit World on November 9, 2016 at the Rapid CityRegionalHospital in Rapid City, SD.
Burgess is survived by brothers Hoksila American Horse and Don (Maxine) American Horse of Rushville, NE, Eugene American Horse Sr. of Gordon, NE, and Rudy Pretty Hip of Porcupine, SD; sisters Josephine (Leroy) Richards of Pine Ridge, SD, Alice (Tuffy) Sierra of Slim Buttes, SD, Geraldine Lance of Gordon, NE, and Sific Pretty Hip of Porcupine, SD; sons Lloyd (Raelene) Bianas of Batesland, SD, Norman (Donna) Bianas of Oglala, SD, Burgess Bianas Jr. of Batesland, SD, Milton (Cecilia) Bianas of Martin, SD, and Shawn (Serena) Bianas of Ashland, MT; daughters Carol Hornbeck of Mitchell, SD, Marletta (Scott) Soldier Wolf of Porcupine, SD, Tana Boyd of Rosebud, SD, Tiffany (Dan Tobacco) Bianas of Pine Ridge, SD, Lynell Von-feldt of Lander, WY, Anola Bianas of Rapid City, SD, Happy Lone Hill of Sioux Falls, SD, Norma Lone Hill of Rapid City, SD, Trevian Yellow Bear of #4 Community, SD, and Serena Yellow Bear of Rapid City, SD; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Burgess was preceded in death by parents Leo and Eva Bianas; spouse Victoria Bianas; daughter Vonda Bianas; sister Sharon Respects Nothing; and brothers Norman Bianas and Kenneth Bianas.
