11/26/2016 - Maxine (Stumph) Cavaness
A memorial service for Maxine Ruth (Stumph) Cavaness, age 80, of Chadron, NE will be at from 1:00-3:00 PM on Saturday, November 26, 2016 to honor and celebrate her life at the First Baptist Church in Chadron, NE.
A light lunch will be served after the service.
A memorial has been established for First Baptist Missions or Donor’s Choice. Donations may be sent to First National Bank North Platte.
Maxine passed away on November 4, 2016 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD with family by her side.
Maxine was born on January 17, 1936 to Paul and Ruth Stumph of Whitney, NE. She grew up on the family farm south of Whitney with her three brothers. There she learned to love God, her family and the value of hard work. She attended Chadron High School and graduated from Chadron State College with a teaching degree.
Although she received a degree in teaching, Maxine spent most of her life in the healthcare profession. She worked in the physical therapy and radiology departments at ChadronCommunityHospital before retiring. She then became a caregiver.
Maxine married Glen Cavaness on November 25, 1955. Glen was in the U.S. Marine Corps, so they moved to California where their first son was born. Eventually, they moved back to Chadron to raise their family.
Maxine was very active in her church, where she loved to play the piano for the church services. Maxine lived her life for God.
Maxine was preceded in death by parents Paul and Ruth Stumph of Whitney, NE and brothers Joel Stumph of Tacoma, WA and John Stumph of Crawford, NE.
She is survived by husband of 60 years Glen Cavaness of Chadron, NE; son Ryan Cavaness and wife Pam of DeLeon, TX, their children Bryan, William, Miranda, John, Stephen, Brooklyn, Tyler and Carmen, and their two grandchildren; daughter Joyce Land of Chadron, NE, her children Kelsey, Michael and Keith Land and her three grandchildren; son Curt Cavaness and wife Terra of Rapid City, S.D.; son Russ of Chadron, NE and his children Ben and Leah; brother Dwight Stumph of Chehalis, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
