Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at the New American Legion Hall in Martin, SD.

Neil was a veteran in the U.S. Army. He was born on December 20, 1933 in Pine Ridge, SD to Gilbert Peck and Lucille (Stratton) Peck. He passed away on November 14, 2016 at the Bennett County Nursing Home in Martin, SD.

Neil spent his childhood on the family ranch near Pass Creek and Norris. He graduated from high school at Webster, SD, served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958, and was stationed in Korea. Neil married Cyrinthia White Hawk in 1963, and from this union sons Ricky and Randy were born. They later parted ways. He married Sherry (Smith) Bettelyoun in 1992. Sherry has been by Neil’s side ever since, lovingly caring for him.

Neil spent his life cowboying, a life he loved. He worked during his younger years for Paul and Baxter Berry in the Belvidere and Norris areas and then later around the Manderson, SD area for Jack Lewis, Curtis Coomes and Doug Temple while at the same time having a herd of cattle of his own. Neil was a great story teller with a great sense of humor and entertained everyone while rounding up or branding or working cows. Neil also had great cowboy “etiquette”. He would ride ahead to open gates. His manners were impeccable, especially around women. He loved to tease his sisters. Neil never met a stranger and had no enemies. Everybody loved him. He was a caring son, brother, husband and father. Neil will be greatly missed by all.

He is survived by wife Sherry of Martin, SD; sons Richard and Randy Peck of Denver, CO and Barry, Randy, and Aaron Bettelyoun; brothers Louie Peck (Donna) of Wayne City, Il and Clinton (Olivia) of Rapid City, SD; sisters Bonnie Portwood of Wheatland, WY, Billie Jo Larvie (Tony) of Lander, WY, Cathy Peck of Rapid City, SD, and Elsie Meeks (Jim) of Interior, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents Gib and Lucile Peck; brothers Darrel and Bobby Peck; sister Ethel Whitcher; and son Jeff Bettelyoun.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Neil Gilbert Peck.
