11/22/2016 - Douglas Jude Wilson
Funeral services for Douglas Jude Wilson, age 22, will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at the Mother Butler Center in Rapid City, SD with Pastor Elton Yellow Boy officiating.
Burial will be at the Pine Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Rapid City, SD.
A one-night wake service will begin at 5:00 PM on Monday, November 21, 2016 at the Mother Butler Center in Rapid City, SD.
Douglas was born on May 30, 1994 in Rapid City, SD to Douglas Jacob Wilson and Junal Gerlach/Bissonette. He made his journey to the Spirit World on November 10, 2016 at the University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, CO.
Douglas was baptized as a Catholic, Pentecostal, and also believed in the Lakota Traditions. Douglas was baptized 25 times in his lifetime and many followed him as a young boy to be baptized as he fellowshipped at Faith Temple Church of God, Dove, Destiny Foursquare, Bethel Assembly of God, and was predominantly a parishioner of LivingWordChurch with Pastor Richard Stahl, all of Rapid City, SD.
Douglas was known for his charismatic personality, making serious moments fun, and always making his presence known. He lived as selflessly as a man could. He was a man who could never tell others no and offered teaching, counseling, and encouraging words. He was also a leader and peacemaker.
Douglas accomplished many things in his time here; he had great leadership skills and awards, such as student leader, weight room manager, recreation student of the month, weightlifter of the month, and vocation student of the month. He also did a lot of volunteer work with the United Blood Services Organization and the Black Hills Humane Society. Everything that Douglas did, he prided himself in, especially his work at the U.S. Forest Service in the Black HillsNational Forest, Box Elder Job Corps Operator and Office Administrator, Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Laborer, Farmers Insurance Agent, and finally his last job at G.E. Capital. He was a graduate of the Box Elder Job Corps in Nemo, SD and also a graduate of the Lead-Deadwood Career Technical Campus in the Lead-DeadwoodSchool District.
Douglas passed away doing what he loved to do, driving his 2006 Saturn Vue, helping his friends, and enjoying making them laugh all through life.
Douglas is survived by mother Junal Gerlach of Rapid City, SD; siblings Tosha Gerlach/Fincher of Savannah, GA, Sierra Gerlach of Virginia, Sky Lakota Gerlach, Alex King, Ina King, Patrick Lee, Mari Meraz, and Lori Sue King, all of Rapid City, SD, Talitha of Sioux Falls, SD, and Camille King of Willmar, MN; aunts and uncles Rochelle Zephier, Rain De'shuequette, Yuhakdinajin Wi Zephier of Everette, WA, Tony Kitson, Charlotte King, and Rony Kitson of Green Bay, WI, Kevin Wade Kitson of Sioux Falls, SD, and Paul “Flip” Wilson of Rapid City, SD; paternal grandparents Patrick and Faith Lee of Rapid City, SD; and nieces and nephews Omarion Fincher, Akayla Fincher, Journey Thorpe, Urijah Giago, Ava Gerlach, Polly Clifford, Andres Mesteth, Monique King, Kellie King, Robert Davis Jr., Michaela Davis, Kaylynn Good Bear, Elijah Good Bear, Andres Dominques, Yessenia Meraz, Alejandro Meraz, Jordyn Brown Bull, August "AJ" King, Brooklyn King, Michael King and Caleb King.
Douglas was preceded in death by father Douglas Jacob Wilson; stepfather Bruce Wayne King; grandparents Sandra Lynn Grey Owl/De'shuequette/ Zephier/Phillips and Rony Roger Kitson; uncles Rex Wilson, Ted WIlson, and Ogden Wilson; and niece Katelyn King.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Douglas Jude Wilson.
