Bill passed away on November 18, 2016 at Chadron Community Hospital. He was born on August 9, 1936 to William and Maxine (Zediker) Baker in Castana, IA, the second of three children. He attended school in Harrison and Castana, graduating from Castana High School in 1954. Bill graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in animal husbandry in 1958, and after serving in the National Guard, returned to the ranch north of Harrison. He married Charlene DeHaven on November 3, 1963, and they raised three children on their ranch.

Bill was a dedicated steward of his land and livestock, making constant improvements and giving back to the land by planting hundreds of trees to benefit future generations. He taught his daughter to ride a horse and his sons to play basketball. His grandchildren will remember him for teasing and joking around, watching their music and sports activities and always working harder than anyone else where there was a job to be done. He was a good friend and neighbor and always thought Harrison and Sioux County was the best place on earth to spend his life.

Bill is survived by wife Charlene of Harrison, NE; daughter Barbara of Lusk, WY; sons Michael (Valerie) of Alliance, NE and Neil (Stacy) of Torrington, WY; seven grandchildren Bethany, Megan, Rachel, Lindsey, Joel, Ryan, and Sam; sisters Pat Bansemer (Ken) of Kailua Kona, HI and Bonnie Law (John) of Phoenix, AZ.

Chamberlain Chapel is in charge of arrangements of Bill D. Baker.
