Funeral services for Stephen Blaine Prairie Chicken, age 23, will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at the Makasan Presbyterian Church in Oglala, SD with Father Henry Fleming and Madeline Terry officiating.
Burial will be at the Makasan Presbyterian Cemetery in Oglala, SD.
A two-night wake service will start with the first night at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at the St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Rapid City, SD. The second night will start at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 28, 2016 at the Makasan Presbyterian Church in Oglala, SD.
Stephen was born on April 16, 1993 in Rapid City, SD to Kenneth Prairie Chicken and Wilberta Means. He began his journey to the spirit world on November 15, 2016 in Rapid City, SD.
Stephen is survived by parents Kenneth Prairie Chicken of Rapid City, SD and Wilberta Means of Pine Ridge, SD; brothers Darryl Brings Plenty of Pine Ridge, SD and Roberto Hernandez of San Diego, CA; sisters Naomi (Donny Merrival) Prairie Chicken and Whisper Prairie Chicken of Rapid City, SD, and Lalita (Richard Jr.) Bermudez-Prairie Chicken of San Diego, CA; nephews Warren Merrival, Donny Merrival Jr., and Rollin Merrival, all of Rapid City, SD, Charmer and Kai Bermudez of San Diego, CA; and cousins Andrew Boyd, Kelly “Pony” Klick, Kelly Escamilla, Micah Prairie Chicken, Marietta Escamilla, Sam, Christine, and Lindsey Prairie Chicken and James Lawrence, all of Rapid City, SD, Jesse Escamilla, Fallon, Charlie, and Delbert Bad Milk, Warren Giago, Chris Giago, Kenny Apple, Heather Apple, Cecil Apple Jr., Mary Apple, Marilyn “BooBoo” Apple, and Verlyn Garnier, all of Pine Ridge, SD, Lindsey Lawrence of Grand Island, NE, Courtney Lawrence of Pierre, SD, Justin Prairie Chicken of Lincoln, NE, Kiarra and Arianna Prairie Chicken of Yankton, SD, Sessily and Landon Yahzee of Salt Lake City, UT, Ellen and Amber Tail of Cheyenne, WY, and Larry, John, Jesse, Alicia and Dale Batten, all of Nespelum, WA.
Stephen was preceded in death by sister Jante Iron Horse; grandparents Christine Prairie Chicken, Wilbert Means and Jewel Frazier; uncle John (Prairie Chicken) Ryan; and cousin Steven Boyd.
