Memorial services for Harris “Moon” Mullins will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, NE with Dr. Russ Seger officiating.
Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 2, 2016 at the NebraskaVeteransCemetery in Alliance, NE.
A memorial has been established for the Volunteer Fire Department or the ShrinersHospital. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.

Moon passed away on November 17, 2016 at Prairie Pines in Chadron. He was born on May 29, 1926 in Logan, WV to Robert L. Mullins and Barbara Anne (Carter) Mullins.
Moon served in the Air Force from 1946 to 1966, serving during World War II and Korea. In 1965, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam. During World War II, he trained as a B17 tail gunner. Though he didn’t serve overseas in that capacity, he worked in the utilities field on water purification and sewage treatment plants for the remainder of his service. He was stationed in the Philippines, Germany, Okinawa, Korea and Vietnam.
Moon graduated from Chadron State College in 1970 with a B.A. in biology and chemistry. While there, he taught Judo and Karate. He received his 4-degree Black Belt in Judo and a 1-degree Black belt in karate while stationed in Korea. After retirement, Moon worked for Westinghouse doing nuclear Power Plant maintenance and cleaning the reactors.
Moon married Rose E. (Lacher) Gatzemeyer. They continued ranching and operating the Chadron Country Club with their Wednesday night specials and good cut back and traveled the country until 1990 when they decided to relocate and take care of property in Florida. The four years there brought the happiness of many more good friends. They returned to Chadron and remodeled the old Country Club into a happy home with all welcome to share their good life.
Moon was preceded in death by his parents, all of his brothers and sisters, wife Rose and stepdaughter Linda Van Loan.
He is survived by Joe Van Loan, several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Moon was a 60-plus-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Oviedo, FL and Samaritan Lodge #158 in Chadron, NE. He was also a member of the Naja Shriners International of Deadwood, SD.
