12/02/2016 - Matthew Jealous Of Him Sr.
Funeral services for Matthew “Congo” Martin Jealous of Him Sr., age 67, will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 2, 2016 at the Messiah Episcopal Church in Wounded Knee, SD with Rev. Harold Eagle Bull, Pastor Julie Jealous of Him, and Pastor Ken Trivette officiating.
Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery in Wounded Knee, SD.
A two-night wake service will begin at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at the Messiah Episcopal Church in Wounded Knee, SD.
Matthew was born in Manderson, SD on May 6, 1949 to Eva Mesteth and Clayton Jealous of Him. He made his journey to the Spirit World on November 23, 2016 at his home in Wounded Knee, SD.
Matthew grew up and settled down in Wounded Knee with his wife of 47 years, Emma Jealous of Him. Together they had five children, Colleen American Horse, Matthew Jealous of Him Jr., John Jealous of Him Sr., Cecelia Jealous of Him, and Sherrillynn Jealous of Him.
Matthew attended and graduated from PierreLearningCenter; after graduation he attended Job Corps in Poplar Bluff, MO. He was a champion boxer where he earned his boxing nickname “Congo.” He also earned many certificates in operating heavy machinery. Matthew spent most of his younger years traveling the United States and eventually came home to marry the love of his life, Emma.
Matthew and Emma and their children attended CookChristianTraining School in Phoenix, AZ, and Matthew took the job as a mailman while Emma attended school. Upon moving back from Arizona, Matthew and Emma had two more girls. Matthew became the School Bus Driver and maintenance man at the PineRidgeChristianAcademy where Emma was a teacher. They both worked there for many years.
Eventually Matthew settled into being a grandpa and was always surrounded by his family. In his last years, Matthew enjoyed sitting on his porch with Emma in the evenings having countless conversations and jokes which were shared with family and friends of all ages. But his best evenings were spent with Emma.
Matthew is survived by wife Emma Jealous of Him of Wounded Knee, SD; children Colleen American Horse, John Jealous of Him Sr., Cecelia Jealous of Him, and Sherrillynn Jealous of Him, all of Wounded Knee, SD and Matthew Jealous of Him Jr. of Rapid City, SD; sisters Clynda Medicine, Wilma Jealous, and Carol Jealous of Him. all of Wounded Knee, SD, and Julie Jealous of Chicago, IL; 12 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Matthew is preceded in death by mother Eva Mesteth; father Clayton Jealous of Him; brothers Paul Mesteth and Billy Jealous of Him; sister Verlie Mae Little Moon; and stepmother Bernice Jealous of Him.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Matthew “Congo” Martin Jealous of Him Sr.
