Funeral services for Phyllis “Tiny” Arna (Ruff) Clifford “Sunkska Ota Agli Win” Brings Many White Horses Woman, age 89, will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 5, 2016 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Kyle, SD with Father Rick Abert, S.J., officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided Hawkeye Montileaux and Sundown Montileaux.
Burial will be at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church Cemetery in Kyle, SD.
A one-night wake service will be at 1:00 PM on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Kyle, SD.
Phyllis was born on September 4, 1927 in Canata, SD to Arthur Ruff and Hilda Peno-Ruff. She made her journey to the Spirit World surrounded by her family on November 29, 2016 at the Hospice of the Hills in Rapid City, SD.
Phyllis, along with her parents and the rest of the family, moved from the bombing range into Kyle, SD when she was 15 years old. When Phyllis was 21, she met Rueben C. Clifford. They were married and had 11 children, 4 boys and 7 girls. She worked at the Senior Citizens Center for 32 years as the cook and was also on the Little Wound School Board. Phyllis took care of many other children in the Kyle area besides her own children.
Phyllis is survived by daughters Viola J. (Clifford) Loafer of Kyle, SD, Ruby S. Clifford of Kyle, SD, Bonnie J. (Clifford) Standing Soldier of Kyle, SD, Hilda (Lou) Clifford-Diaz of Ft. Meade, MD and Lisa (Austin) Clifford-Watkins of Kyle, SD; sons Rueben A. Clifford of Red Shirt Table, SD, William (Jonnie) R. Clifford of Kyle, SD, and Edward L. Clifford of Kyle, SD; nephews Arthur (Tezur) Ruff and Patrick Ruff of Kyle, SD; and niece Ramona (Apple) Ashmore of Salt Lake City, UT.
Phyllis was preceded in death by husband Rueben C. Clifford; son Laddimer W. Clifford; daughters Belva Kay Clifford and Wilma Clifford Watkins; mother Hilda (Peno) Ruff; father Arthur Ruff; grandsons Edward Clay Standing Soldier, Laddimer Price, and Logan Stadnick; granddaughter Yvonne Loafer and Tanya Loafer; sister Eloise Garnette; brother Bill Ruff; aunt Delilah Jensen; nephew Renzel Palmier; and nieces Corrine J. Ruff and Myrnette (Apple) Janis.
