Funeral services for Dawson Pedro Protector, age 73, will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 2, 2017 at the Wounded Knee District School in Manderson, SD with Apostle Pedro Sharpfish and Reverend Harold Eagle Bull officiating.
Burial will be at St. Thomas Episcopal Cemetery in Manderson, SD.
A two-night wake service will begin at 3:30 PM on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the Wounded Knee District School in Manderson, SD.
Dawson was a veteran in the U.S. Army.
Dawson was born on September 22, 1943 in Manderson, SD to Adam and Esther (Flying Hawk) Protector. He made his journey to the Spirit World on December 26, 2016 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Dawson is survived by sisters Dorothy Tail of Porcupine, SD and Evelyn Protector of Belle Fourche, SD; cousin, Brenda Protector of Manderson, SD: nieces and nephews Martha (Andre Janis) Protector of Wounded Knee, SD, Priscilla Tail of Pine Ridge, SD, Ella (David) Lays Bad of Porcupine, SD, Lula (Steve) Jones of El Paso, TX, Mary Tail and Crystal Tail of Pine Ridge, SD, Cynthia Stands of Rapid City, SD, Pete Stands Jr. of Manderson, SD, Heather Protector of #4 Community in Oglala, SD, Norman Red Star of Manderson, SD, and Cameron Red Star of Rapid City, SD; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dawson was preceded in death by parents Adam and Esther Protector; brothers Lloyd, Albert, Leonard and Emerson Protector; sister Roselyn Protector; uncle Alex Protector; aunt Lucy Yellow Boy; and niece Candace Stands.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Dawson Pedro Protector.
