01/30/2017 - Francis White Dress Sr.
Funeral services for Francis Aloysius White Dress Sr., age 87, will be at 12:00 PM on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church Hall in Kyle, SD with Father Rick Abert, S.J., officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Rick Two Dogs.
Burial will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 30, 2017 at the Lakota Freedom Veterans Cemetery in Kyle, SD.
A one-night wake service will begin at 12:00 PM on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church Hall in Kyle, SD.
He was a veteran in the U.S. Army.
Francis was born on September 16, 1929 in Denby, SD to James and Amelia (Red Bear) White Dress. He made his journey to the Spirit World on January 22, 2017 at the Pine Ridge I.H.S. Hospital in Pine Ridge, SD.
Francis joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged on April 7, 1953. Francis married Adeline Sun Bear, and to this union, they had 9 children. They made their home at Denby, later moving to Kyle, SD to American Horse Creek, where he resided until the time of his passing. Francis was a rancher and also loved to garden. He was employed at various places throughout his life until he retired. Francis will be dearly missed by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. They were his pride and joy.
Francis gratefully shared his life with daughters Mary (Ted) Lame of Number 4 Community, Lucille (Belleron) White Dress of Kyle, SD, and Cynthia (Donovan) Thunder Hawk of Porcupine, SD; sons Wallace (Delphine) White Dress, Francis White Dress Jr., Richard White Dress, Taylor White Dress, Boyd White Dress, and John White Dress, all of Kyle, SD; and sister Pearl White Dress of Kyle, SD.
Francis was preceded in death by parents James and Amelia White Dress; spouse Adeline Sun Bear; brothers Edward White Dress Sr. and Floyd White Eyes; sister Cecelia Frazier; step-daughter Catherine Sun Bear; and grandchildren Lorelie Lame, Emily Blue Bird, Asa Blue Bird, and Shirley Fresquez.
