A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Marcella Cottier, age 82, will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the St. Agnes Catholic Church Hall in Manderson, SD with Father Christopher Johnson, S.J., Father Edmund Yainao and Joyce Tibbitts officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Eric Cross.
Burial will be at 3:00 PM on Thursday, February 8, 2017 at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
A one-night wake service will begin at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at St. Agnes Catholic Church Hall in Manderson, SD. Rosary services will tart at 7:00 PM at the Church Hall.
Mary was born on March 31, 1934 in Pine Ridge, SD to Dave Flying Hawk and Cecelia Kills Enemy. She made her journey to the Spirit World on February 5, 2017 at the Rapid CityRegionalHospital in Rapid City, SD.
Mary is survived by children Rose Marie Cottier, Kathryn Cottier, Alberta (Dale) Richard, and Bert Cottier Jr. all of Pine Ridge, SD, and Loretta (Craig) Courtney of Grand Rivers, KY; 29 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by parents Dave Flying Hawk and Cecelia Kills Enemy; spouse Bert Roy Cottier Sr; son Gerald L. Smith-Cottier; daughter Theresa Marie Cottier; brothers David Flying Hawk Jr., Clare Flying Hawk, and Robert Michael Flying Hawk; and sisters Kathrine Richards, Madeline Boerschig, Prudy Flying Hawk, Verna Flying Hawk, and Geraldine Means.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Mary Marcella Cottier.
