A wake service began at 12:00 PM (CT) on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at the Norris Community Hall in Norris, SD.

Terry passed away on February 13, 2017 in Rapid City, SD. He was born on May 18, 1978 in Rapid City, SD to Wendell A. Luke and Mary Lou Wooden Knife. Terry lived in Rapid City until he was 3 years old when his parents moved to the Corn Creek Community where he spent his childhood years growing up. Terry attended grade school at North Elementary and high school in White River, and graduated high school at Crazy Horse School in Wanblee, SD. After high school, Terry worked with the Forestry Service for a year and half, managed the Fresh Start Convenience & Gas Station in Martin, SD, and was a CNA at the Kadoka Care Center. His last employment was a cook at the Lakota Café in Kadoka, SD.

While he was working at the Kadoka Care Center, Terry met the love of his life, Laurie. Terry was training to be a CNA at the Kadoka Care Center when he met Laurie. He would persuade her with many different types of candies to talk to her and eventually asked her out on a date. After some time getting to know Laurie, Terry asked Laurie’s mother for her hand in marriage, and he was granted that permission. They were married on February 8, 2017 at the Regional Hospital Chapel.

Terry was a wonderful person; he brightened everyone’s day with his smile. He had many “adventures” with his brothers that always led to a wonderful time. Terry was a proud man; he took pride in everything he did, and many people looked up to him because of that. During Terry’s life, he did have his own problems that he had to deal with, but he always overcame every obstacle in his life and continued to live a good life. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends, especially his two loving dogs, Bozer and Taco.

Terry is survived by spouse Laurie Jakeway-Luke of Kadoka, SD; mother Mary Lou (Ken) Wooden Knife-Rider of Hot Springs, SD; hunka brothers Travis Wooden Knife of White River, SD, John Wooden Knife Jr. of Beatrice, NE, Waylon Wooden Knife of Mission, SD, Leroy Morrison Jr. of Norris, SD, Chris Huber of Kadoka, SD, Jess Hullet of Minnesota, Jared Dunham of Winner, SD, Richard Drake of Maryville, PA, and Jordan Wooden Knife of Rapid City, SD; sisters Marla Ferguson of Norris, SD and Tamara Jayde Shaw of Vermillion, SD; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Terry was preceded in death by father Wendall Luke and grandparents Wendall Sr. and Emma Luke and Ansel and Mary Wooden Knife.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Terry Lee Luke.
