03/11/2017 - Jacob Iron Horse Sr.

Funeral services for Jacob Vernell Iron Horse Sr. “Tasunka Maza,” age 53, will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 11, 2016 at the Wakpamni CAP Office in Pine Ridge, SD with Wilson Coleman and Ella Coleman officiating.
 
Burial will be at the Catches Family Cemetery, #4 Community, near Pine Ridge, SD.
 
A two-night wake service will begin with the first night starting at 3:30 PM on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala, SD. The second night will begin at 2:30 PM at the Wakpamni CAP Office in Pine Ridge, SD.
 
Jacob was born on November 26, 1963 in Pine Ridge, SD to Jackson Iron Horse and Bertha (White Bull) Wounded. His grandparents, “Joe” & Sophi Catches, raised him as their own. He was taught the Peyote and Sundance way and was strong with both. Jacob made his journey to the Spirit World on March 3, 2017 at Rapid CityRegionalHospital in Rapid City, SD.
 
Jacob is survived by children Jeremy Iron Horse and Jalia Iron Horse of Rapid City, SD, Monte Hunter and Jasmine Iron Horse of Pine Ridge, SD, and Jensine Iron Horse of Allen, SD and Jamie Two Bulls of Sioux Falls, SD; sisters Carol Wounded of Pine Ridge, SD and Janice Afraid of Bear of Fort Hall, ID; aunt Rachel Chief Eagle of Hot Springs, SD; grandchildren Jetta, Stryker and Jacynda Tobacco, Viston Iron Horse, Jesse and Jontay Iron Horse, and Casey, Khaliyah, Kyson, Jeremy Jr., Khanishe, Khaneiah, Kairah and Talia Iron Horse; and great-grandson Alfernando Rae Hunter of Calico Community, near Pine Ridge, SD.
 
Jacob was preceded in death by parents Jackson Iron Horse and Bertha (White Bull) Wounded; grandparents James “Joe” and Sophi Catches; children Jacob Iron Horse Jr., Jamar, Jamie, Jackie, Danielle, and Jontay Iron Horse, and Misty Hunter; sisters Shirley Bell, Angelina Red Cloud and Karyn Wounded; brothers Anthony Wounded and Levi Wounded; and nephews Alfernando and Leo Black Feather.
 
Jacob was a loving father, brother, uncle, cousin, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
 
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Jacob Vernell Iron Horse Sr.
