Jay passed away on March 17, 2017 in Hot Springs, SD. He was a veteran in the U.S. Army.
Jay was born on January 15, 1962 in Peoria, IL to Robert Schreiner and Anna Louise (Richard) Schreiner. Jay enlisted in the military when he was 17 years old and had to have his mother sign the authorization for him to enlist. Jay Dee’s career in the United States Army lasted over 12 years, and he traveled the world on his tour of duty, serving both stateside and overseas. He traveled to Italy, Iraq, Kuwait, where he was part of Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Saudi Arabia, Panama, and Germany, where he witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall. When he was stateside, he was stationed in Fort Hood, TX, Louisiana, North Carolina, Tacoma, WA, Colorado Springs, CO, Fort Ord, CA, and most notably Fairbanks, AK, where Jay met the love of his life, Pamla Roberts. Jay fell in love with Pamla, and they were married on January 25, 1983 in Fairbanks, AK. Once Jay was discharged from the military in Fort Ord, CA, he and Pamla began raising their family. To this union three children were born, Rhiannon, Tasheena, and Jay Schreiner Jr. Jay raised his family in Pine Ridge, SD with his wife Pamla by his side. Together they would go camping with their children and grandchildren. Jay especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, and he would always say, “There is nothing like having grandchildren!” He loved hunting and fishing; basically anything he could do outdoors, he would be there.
After his discharge from the military and his return to Pine Ridge, Jay began working as a jailer for Public Safety in Pine Ridge, SD. After some time, Jay left Public Safety and began a career at I.H.S., where he worked for over 13 years. Jay and Pamla were both die-hard Harley Davidson motorcyclists; many people would often find Jay and Pamla side by side riding down the pavement together on warm summer days and nights. Jay Dee and Pamla were inseparable. They were always together, and their marriage was an example for everyone, especially after being married for over 33 years. Jay Dee had one of the hardest times in his life when Pamla passed away on May 7, 2016.
Jay Dee will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all the people he met in his lifetime. He is now going to join Pamla and the rest of his loving family that have passed on before him. Jay Dee will forever remain in our hearts.
