A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard James Janis Sr., age 69, will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Ridge, SD with Father Christopher Johnson, S.J., and Charles McGaa officiating.
Burial will be at the BadMilkFamilyCemetery on White Horse Creek Road in Manderson, SD.
A one-night wake service will begin at 4:00 PM on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Ridge, SD with Rosary Services starting at 7:00 PM at the church.
Richard was born on September 24, 1947 in Pine Ridge, SD to Henry Janis and Zona (Hawk Wing) Janis. He made his journey to the Spirit World on April 11, 2017 at the Hospice of the Hills in Rapid City, SD.
Richard is survived by spouse Arlene Janis of Rapid City, SD; sons Todd Janis, Jeff Janis, Richard Janis Jr., and Godfrey Janis, all of Pine Ridge, SD; daughter Fawn Janis of Shakopee, MN; sister Zona Tomsha of Auburn, WA; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by parents Henry and Zona Janis; brothers Godfrey, Carl, Henry Jr., Gansler, Greeley, Nicholas, Garfield, and Harvey Janis; sister Vienna Bad Milk; daughter Lisa Marie Janis; and grandson Steven Christopher Janis.
