Carey Dale Grass was born on February 1, 1957 in Pine Ridge, SD to Duffy Grass, Sr. and Daisy Fork Butte.  Carey made her journey to the Spirit World on April 11, 2017 in Gordon, NE.

Carey is survived by his son, Jesse Michael Gilpin of Sioux City, Iowa; daughter, Erin Blue of Sioux City, Iowa; sister, Cindy Grass of Gordon, NE; and 8 grandchildren.

Carey was preceded in death by his parents, Duffy Grass, Sr. and Daisy Fork Butte; brothers, Conrad, Luther, Byron, Harlan, John, and Duffy Grass, Jr.; sisters, Wilma Grass, Silveritta Standing Elk, and Mildred Grass.
