Kyle passed away on March 11, 2018 at his home in Crawford, NE. He was born on September 30, 1951 in Crawford, NE to Frank and Naomi Reeves. He was the second of four children. A middle child through and through, he never ceased to complain about the lack of pictures and attention. To hear him tell it, he was an alright athlete and an excellent singer and yodeler in school.

He attended Chadron State College after high school where he studied Physical Education, though the records could never really be confirmed; he claimed to have enough credits to graduate as a Junior in good standing. After that, he worked for Diamond Engineering in Grand Island, NE. Like a homing pigeon, he returned to Crawford to work for BNSF in 1974. He eventually took a role as a track inspector between Alliance and Crawford in order to remain in the Crawford area with his family. In his best years, he also sat as President on both the golf board and the city council. He was kind of a big deal in both places especially around the time of the flood.

Somewhere in there, he convinced Kathryn (Lockwood) Reeves to marry him, so they did that on August 23, 1975. She was considered the best part of that union, until they had kids. They spent years chasing those three legends scattered across the Midwest. Their last trip was spent in New Orleans celebrating 29 years of marriage.

He found a friend and companion in Diana, and they were married in 2008. Kyle continued toiling on the railroad until 2011. In his words, that’s when he finally found something he was really good at - retirement. The remainder of his days were spent tending to his yard, to his garden and to the graves of those he loved. He found fulfillment in his daily routine, which included visiting with his mom and her friends both at home and at the nursing home. The simple pleasures of his day included listening to Kenny Rogers from his hot tub on his back deck and providing unwanted golf tips to anyone who crossed his path while simultaneously losing Titleist Pro-V1s all over Legend Buttes Golf Course.

He is survived by son Brian (Shannon) Reeves of Overland Park, KS; daughters Dr. Wendy Reeves (Jesse Hays) of Beatrice, NE, and Tonya (Tyler) Carlson of Gillette, WY; wife Diana (Hageman) Reeves and her sons Kourt (Sarah) Hageman and Judd (Jacque) Hageman of Chadron, NE; brother Kip (Kathy) Reeves of Grand Island, NE; sister Kerri (David) Ottley of Alpine, WY; sister Kandyce (Jeff) Arnold of Fremont, NE; mother-in-law Bonnie (Lockwood) Raper of Cherokee, IA; brother-in-law Doug (Daryla) Lockwood of Storm Lake, IA; brother-in-law Craig (Lorrie) Lockwood of Cherokee, IA; brother-in-law Tim (Jenny) Lockwood of Cherokee, IA; sister-in-law Tammy (Mark) Wurth of Le Mars, IA ; 13 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by father Frank Reeves; mother Naomi (Moss) Reeves; wife, Kathryn (Lockwood) Reeves; and friend Dave Kruse.

Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements Kyle Wesley Reeves.
