Memorial services for Jeaneen Lucille Grey Eagle, age 63, will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 19, 2018 at the Wakpamni CAP Office in Pine Ridge, SD. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Richard Two Dogs.
Burial services will be held at a later date.
At the age of 63, and with the strong heart only a Lakota woman can own, Jeaneen left this place in life to be with her mother, sisters, grandmother, Prince and other family in the spirit world on March 12, 2018 in Burnsville, MN. She left a trail of broken hearts behind her and instructions to her children on how to live life. She worried to the very end for all seven of her children and for her grandchildren and even all the little animals she fed, making her kids promise to continue to feed the animals. A long-time nomadic resident of the gypsy way of life from the plains, her ancestors traveled to the North where her favorite Artist single-handedly created funk to the mountains of Iran and the wooded hills of Oklahoma, she lived her life fully, settling in Prior Lake, MN to be near her best friend, Jason, and her favorite place on Earth, Paisley Park.
Not only was she known for her bravery of being in some of the most controversial places in history at that time, the Pine Ridge Reservation during the Wounded Knee Occupation, Iran during the Revolution in 1979, she was also known for her active roles in making change for the better of her people. Testifying before Congress about the dangers of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome on reservations, doings statistical research on the health disparities on reservations that are poverty stricken, and grant writing for the drug and alcohol recovery program she directed for many years. She was known for being an artist for many years, often decorating and adorning people with her beautiful creations that she used as a method of survival to feed her children, pay a bill, and just live. A skill she passed on to her children. She was also known to many for being a Steelers fan and Yankees fan and self-proclaimed Obama Mama.
Jeaneen is survived by father Hobart Lone Hill; sisters Darla McLaughlin, Carla McLaughlin, Mary (Eddie) Bowman, and Evie Weston; brothers Mark Lone Hill, Bill McLaughlin, and Gerald McLaughlin; sons Travis (Calais) Lone Elk, Jesse (Rita) Grey Eagle, and Jaron Grey Eagle; daughters Dana Lone Hill, Jaida Grey Eagle (Tyler Steffenhagen), Jenna Grey Eagle, and Jonna Grey Eagle; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and pets Lizzy the Blue Heeler and rescue cats Frodo and Florence.
Jeaneen was preceded in death by mother Darlene McLaughlin; grandmother Louise Amiotte; sisters Colette Lone Hill, Cathy McLaughlin, and Nellie Mousseau; brother Louis Lone Hill; and stepmother Estelle (Poxie) Lone Hill.
