A Mass of Christian Burial for Louis Richards, age 73, will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the Richards’ Residence seven miles northwest of Allen, SD with Father Ron Seminara, S.J., officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Sidney Has No Horse.
Burial will be at the Richards’ Family Cemetery in Allen, SD.
A two-night wake service will begin at 5:00 PM on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at the American Horse School Gym in Allen, SD.
Louis was born on May 13, 1944 in Allen, SD to Alex James Richards and Lillian Milk. He made his journey to the Spirit World on April 20, 2018 at his home in Allen, SD.
Louis is survived by sons Larry (Carla) Richard, Reno Richards Jr., Leon Richard, Keith Kills Straight and Chris Little Eagle, all of Allen, SD, Pedro Armas of Gordon, NE, and Aldwin “Punch” Cottier, Rex Conroy, Ben Conroy and Archie Sierra of Batesland, SD; daughters Charlotte (Myron) Richard, Anita (Travis) Richard, Faith Richards, Lucy Cottier and Mona Guttierez, all of Allen, SD, Dawn Richard of Rushville, NE, Keneona Black Cat of Kyle, SD, Valerie Shotts and Shirley May of Potato Creek, SD and Connie Sierra, Sophia Conroy, Rena Conroy and Danielle Conroy, all of Batesland, SD; sister Bertha (Richard) Conroy of Batesland, SD; and brother Frank Yankton of Batesland, SD.
Louis was preceded in death by parents Alex James Richard and Lillian Milk; wife Dorene (Plenty Arrows) Richard; sons Louie Richard Jr. and Troy Richard Sr.; granddaughters Dorene Brave Heart and Jada Richard; grandsons Dre’Vonte Richard and Trevor Iron Cloud (Richards); brothers Rueben Fire Thunder, Alfred Richard, Daniel Nelson, Reno Richards Sr., and Gary Richard; sisters Louise (Richard) Black Cat and Shirley (Richard) Little Eagle; nephews Les Bear Nose, Stanley Little Eagle and Wayne Fire Thunder; and grandfathers Jasper Milk and John Milk.
Pallbearers will be Lawrence Richard, Storm Thunder Bull, Dusty Richard, Reno Richard, Rex Conroy, Archie Sierra, Aldwin Cottier, Garfield Iron Crow, Shawn Two Bulls, Trav Iron Crow, John Conroy and Chandler Brave Heart.
