05/25/2018 - James Humphrey Tscharner
Burial services for James Humphrey Tscharner, age 85, of Jackson, CA, formerly of Chadron, NE, will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Greenwood Cemetery in Chadron, NE in the Tscharner area. Friends are welcome.
A memorial has been established, and donations may be sent to Trinity Episcopal Church, 430 Highway 49, Sutter Creek, CA95685 or to the Interfaith Food Bank, 12181 Airport Road, Jackson, CA95642.
James passed away on January 15, 2018. He was born in Chadron, NE on July 2, 1932 to the late Lucie E. (Humphrey) and Christopher J. Tscharner. He was the devoted husband of Shirley M. (Bathke) Tscharner and father of two sons, Jay and Jon.
After graduating from ChadronHigh School in 1949, Jim attended the University of Nebraska-Omaha, where he earned his bachelor’s of science degree in engineering. On April 21, 1956, he married the love of his life, Shirley, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Omaha, NE, and since then the two celebrated over 62 years of marriage together. The Tscharners started their family life in Denver, CO, moving then to Casper, WY, and eventually to California, settling in the San Bruno and San Mateo area for over 30 years before relocating to Jackson 20 years ago.
Jim spent his career in the underground pipe construction industry, working as an outside salesman with Lockjoint Pipe and as sales manager for Gladding McBean.
He was an incredibly thoughtful and generous man who put others above himself. His Episcopal faith was a priority throughout his life. Jim was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Sutter Creek. He served as a volunteer at the local Interfaith Food Bank and was a member of the Jackson chapter of SIRS. He was an outdoorsman, a sports enthusiast and had a love for dogs.
His love of faith and family shined through in all he did. Jim is survived by his loving family including wife Shirley Tscharner; sons Jay (Ann) Tscharner and Jon Tscharner; and recently married granddaughter Kate (Tscharner) Fuso and her husband, Brian.
