Graveside services for Wayne Crawford Ross, age 87, resident of Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs and formerly of Rushville, NE, will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Fairview Cemetery in Rushville, NE with Pastor Paul Smith officiating.

Wayne entered into his Heavenly home on May 10, 2018. He was born on March 25, 1931 in Rushville to George Ross and Jessie Keethler Ross. When Wayne was seven years old, his mother married Earl King, who raised Wayne from then on.

At the age of 19, Wayne was drafted into the United States Marines during the Korean War and was stationed in San Diego, Camp Pendleton, and then in Japan, where he was based near Mt. Fuji. He was honorably discharged and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Medal.

When he returned to Rushville, Wayne worked on the Fawn Lake Ranch, where he used horses to feed hay to the cattle during the winter months. He also worked for Harold (Hub) Beguin before going to work for Sam Hinn, helping them with calving, fencing and haying while living in the bunkhouse. He worked for the Hinns for over 50 years.

When Wayne developed knee troubles, the doctor told him he had to quit working on the ranch, so in 2004 he became a resident of Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs where he lived until his death. Wayne enjoyed his life there and interacting with the staff and other residents. He liked teasing someone every chance he got, playing Bingo and cards and other activities.

Wayne is survived by sister Eva Johnston of Scottsbluff, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and the friends and nursing staff at Pioneer Manor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Dean Ross, Dale King, and Jim King; sister Arlene Chambless; stepbrothers Derryl, Lester, Kenneth and Bob King, and stepsister Betty Bennett.

Wayne will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
