Funeral services for Martha (Gay) American Horse, age 97, will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the Messiah Episcopal Church in Wounded Knee, SD with Reverend Harold Eagle Bull officiating.
 
Burial will be at the Messiah Episcopal Church Cemetery in Wounded Knee, SD.
 
A two-night wake service will begin at 3:30 PM on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the Messiah Episcopal Church in Wounded Knee, SD with evening services starting at 7:00 PM each evening.
 
Martha was born on April 28, 1921 in Wounded Knee, SD to Stephen and Dora (Shot To Pieces) Gay. She passed away on May 28, 2018 at Gordon Memorial Hospital in Gordon, NE.
 
Martha is survived by adopted son Brandon American Horse of Gordon, NE; grandchildren Victor Black Elk Jr. of Hemingford, NE, Ramona Clifford of Fort Morgan, CO, Hope White Face, Dora Deines, Garould White Face, and Emil American Horse, all of Gordon, NE, Monica Robateau of Log Lane Village, CO, and Jeremy American Horse of Kyle, SD; 34 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; nieces Josephine Richards of Denby, SD, Darlene Bear Killer of Sharps Corner, SD, Bonnie Swallow, Pearl Rossman, Annabelle Martinez, and Daisy Martinez, all of Wounded Knee, SD, Alice Sierra of Slim Buttes, SD, Shirley Marshall of Rapid City, SD, and Jeanette “Rena” Bettelyoun of Allen, SD; nephews Donald American Horse Sr. of Rushville, NE, Eugene American Horse Sr. of Gordon, NE, William White Feather of Sharps Corner, SD, Leonard Martinez of Wounded Knee, SD, and George American Horse of Louisiana; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren too numerous to mention.
 
Martha was preceded in death by spouse Stanley American Horse Sr.; parents Stephen and Dora Gay; children Lucille Clifford, Faith Ghost Bear, Garould American Horse, and Stanley “Jackie” American Horse Jr.; sisters Christina Gay-Martinez, Lavina Gay, and Daisy Gay-American Horse; and grandchildren Betty Ghost Bear, James White Face, Stephen White Face, and Lawrence Black Elk.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Martha (Gay) American Horse.
