Funeral services for Arthur Douglas Has No Horse Sr., age 89, will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 25, 2018 at the AmericanHorseSchool in Allen, SD with Lay Minister Anthony Wounded Head officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Steve DuBray Sr.
Burial will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 25, 2018 at the Black HillsNationalCemetery in Sturgis, SD.
A two-night wake service will begin with the first night at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the Youth Center in Allen, SD. The second night will start at 12:00 PM on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at the AmericanHorseSchool in Allen, SD. Evening services will be held each night during the wake services at 7:00 PM.
Arthur was a veteran in the U.S. Army. He was born on January 29, 1929 at home in Kyle, SD to Morris Sr. and Ethel (Horn Chips) Has No Horse. He made his journey to the Spirit World on June 16, 2018 at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home in Hot Springs, SD.
Arthur grew up in YellowBearCanyon and enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 22 in Sioux Falls, SD on February 2, 1951. Arthur served his country proudly during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on May 20, 1953.
Arthur met the love of his life, Priscilla Plenty Arrows, in 1954, and they were later married. Arthur believed in his cultural ways and values and was a very humble man. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren very much. He enjoyed playing the accordion and guitar and loved horses. Arthur was a saddle bronc rider and also broke many horses of his own. He was a fluent Lakota speaker his entire life and will be greatly missed by all of his family.
Arthur is survived by four children Arthur and Sherrie Has No Horse Jr. of Allen, SD, Deb and Richard Bad Milk of Mission, SD, Arlette Has No Horse of Wanblee, SD, and Julia Has No Horse of Rapid City, SD; hunka brother Francis “Chubs” Thunder Hawk of Porcupine, SD; sisters Ramona Means of Gordon, NE, Althea Doodson of London, NH, Gertie Yankton of Wanblee, SD, Linda Lone Wolf of Martin, SD, Imogene Roy of Kyle, SD, and Barbara Dull Knife of Oglala, SD.
Arthur was preceded in death by parents Morris Sr. and Ethel Has No Horse; spouse Priscilla L. Plenty Arrows-Has No Horse; daughter Yvonne Has No Horse; brothers Dawson Has No Horse Sr., Larry C. Mores, and Morris Has No Horse Jr.; sisters Charity Shots and Roselynn Has No Horse; and grandchildren Calvin Bissonette, Arlen Bissonette, Jeffrey Curry Jr., Stephanie Bissonette, and Carly Cottier.
