Barbara passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at her home in Chadron, NE. She was born on July 27, 1940 in Chadron, NE to Carl and Vergie Gold.
As a young girl, Barbara grew up on a farm northwest of Chadron. She attended the Assumption Academy K-8 and graduated from ChadronHigh School in 1958. On January 2, 1964, she married Roger Hollrah, and with this union, she had given to her, a son, a stepbrother, and a stepsister, then went on to build a greater family with two more daughters. Barbara was an avid homemaker that made most of her children’s clothes and prepared homemade meals from scratch. The family moved to Sterling, CO in 1976, where she was a co-owner of a package liquor store with her husband for several years before moving back to Chadron in 1993 where she worked various positions at Pine Ridge Jobs Corps until she retired.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and PBO DOES, but her real passion were her dolls, plants and flowers. She could make something beautiful out of nothing no matter how dilapidated or ruined a garden or doll was. The dolls, flowers and plants always had a surviving chance if they were in her hands. She took pride in all of her work, and she made everything beautiful just as she was as a person.
Survivors include husband Roger Hollrah of Chadron, NE; daughters Deborah Sheldon of Sterling, CO and Rhonda (Bill) Schleuning of Chadron, NE; stepson Randy (Heather) Hollrah of Forsythe, MO; sisters Eloise Downing of La Quinta, CA, Erma Lewellen of Scottsbluff, NE, and Betty Staal of Chadron, NE; brother Larry (Susan) Gold of Council Bluffs, IA; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.
She is preceded in death by son Michael Gold, stepdaughter Kristi Horne, and parents Vergie and Carl Gold.
