07/17/2018 - Raymond 'Ringo' New Holy
Funeral services for Raymond “Ringo” Colins New Holy, age 54, of Elizabethtown, PA will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala, SD with Father Edmund Yainao, S.J., officiating. Traditional Lakota services are to be announced.
Burial will be at the Little Grass Creek Cemetery in Oglala, SD.
A two-night wake service will start at 4:00 PM on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala, SD with evening services starting at 7:00 each night of the wake services.
Ringo passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 5, 2018. Born on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in Pine Ridge, SD, he was the son of the late Ambrose New Holy and Keva Ghost.
Ringo attended OglalaCommunitySchool and BennettCountySchool where he excelled as a cross country and track athlete. He was a member of the Oglala Lakota Nation and was a Pipe Carrier and Sundancer. He grew up on the Reservation with his brothers and sisters prior to moving to Pennsylvania. During his younger years, Ringo worked on numerous ranches and was a wild horse racer. He appeared as a horseman in the 1990 blockbuster movie, “Dancing with Wolves” and the 1991 TV Movie, “Son of the Morning Star”. He also was a self-employed bonded and professional driver for numerous pharmaceutical companies. Ringo is survived by longtime girlfriend Heather Abramo of Elizabethtown, PA; sons Travis New Holy of Porcupine, SD and Curtis New Holy of Rapid City, SD; daughters Janice and Emily New Holy of Elizabethtown, PA; granddaughter Emmaleigh Cheri Erin Martin of Oglala, SD; sisters Eileen (Sam) Moves Camp of Little Grass Creek, Nancy Marshall of Hot Springs, SD, Dianne Iron Bird of Pine Ridge, SD, Sharon Arrowchis of Preston, ID, Judy New Holy of Oglala, SD, and Trudy New Holy of Little Grass Creek, SD; hunka sisters Janie Redman Four Horns of Standing Buffalo, Saskatchewan, Canada, Mary Ann Robins of Conestoga, PA, and Paulette Poitras of Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan, Canada; brothers Charley New Holy of Scenic, SD, Gary New Holy of Little Grass Creek, SD and Ambrose New Holy Jr. of Oglala, SD; and hunka brothers Richard “Whip” Schappell of Schnecksville, PA, Ralph Ashwashige of Sudbury, Ontario, and Douglas Spotted Eagle of Albuquerque, NM. Raymond was preceded in death by son Troy New Holy and parents Ambrose New Holy Sr. and Keva Ghost.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Raymond “Ringo” Colins New Holy.
