Funeral services for Lahoma Alice Red Elk, age 32, will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at the Pass Creek CAP Office in Allen, SD with Father Ed Hunt officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Justin Poor Bear.
Burial will be at the Broken Rope Family Cemetery in No Flesh, SD.
A one-night wake service will begin at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the Pass Creek CAP Office in Allen, SD with evening services starting at 7:00 PM.
Lahoma was born on July 5, 1986 in Gordon, NE to Lawrence Cortez, Sr. and Julia Ann (Broken Rope) Ireland. She made her journey to the Spirit World on July 10, 2018 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Lahoma is survived by spouse Jesse Red Elk of Rapid City, SD; children Creighton Cortez, Michael Red Elk, Pheonix Red Elk, Jesse Red Elk Jr., Mystik Red Elk, and Tanner High Horse, all of Rapid City, SD; mother Julia (Broken Rope) Ireland of Rapid City, SD; sisters Alma Nichols and Natalie Cortez of Rapid City, SD, Amber Cortez of Allen, SD, Melissa Cortez of Sioux Falls, SD, and Monica Cortez of Albuquerque, NM; brothers Albert Broken Rope of Rapid City, SD, Austin Cortez of Allen, SD, Justin Cortez of Mitchell, SD, and Lawrence Cortez Jr. of Sioux Falls, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lahoma was preceded in death by son Elton Red Elk; father Lawrence Cortez; stepfather Donald Ireland; and brother Alton Broken Rope-Nichols.
