Funeral services for Frances Rose Ice “Waunspekiyewin,” age 89, will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the Wakpamni Service Center near Pine Ridge, SD with Pastor William “Bill” Quijas officiating. Traditional Lakota services are to be announced.
Burial will be at the Ice Family Cemetery in Wounded Knee, SD.
A one-night wake service will begin at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at the Wakpamni Service Center near Pine Ridge, SD with evening services starting at 7:00 PM at the Wakpamni Service Center.
Frances was born on September 5, 1928 at home in Batesland, SD to Alec and Mabel (Runs Against) Ice. She made her journey to the Spirit World on July 27, 2018 at the Gordon Memorial Hospital in Gordon, NE.
Frances is survived by son Donovan Chase of Pine Ridge, SD; daughters Karen (Bryan) White Butterfly of Manderson, SD, Joyce (Lester) White Butterfly, Yvonne (Manuel) Chase In Winter, and Theresa Claymore, all of Pine Ridge, SD; sister Cleon Ice of Wounded Knee, SD; grandchildren Floyd Bullman, William Plenty Arrows, Jesse Jack, Gene Jack, Lester Jack, Ben Jack, Charles Jack, Mike Chase, Lance Chase, Steve Chase, Craig Chase, Jeremy Chase In Winter, Casey Red Cloud, Jared Iron Horse, Ryan Charging Cloud, Richard Charging Cloud, Nick Charging Cloud, Frances Stands, Julie White Butterfly, Jessica Chase, Kimimila Jack, Leslie Little, and Monique Coats; great-grandchildren Dusty Bullman, Cody Bullman, Cory Bullman, Brenton Bullman, Braiden Bullman, Will Plenty Arrows, Carlos Plenty Arrows, Jacinda Plenty Arrows, Lester Jack III, Rosie Jack, Siouxtera Jack, Connor Richards, Colbert Richards Jr., Chloe Richards, Coryn Richards, Cody Good Voice Flute, Braylon Charging Cloud, Amos Charging Cloud, Aden Charging Cloud, Naomi Charging Cloud, Maliyah Catches, Mackenzie Catches, Emily Cornelius, Eden Cornelius, Tokala Chase In Winter, Josiah Chase, and Luca Chase; and great-great-grandchild Riley Bullman.
Frances was preceded in death by parents Alec and Mabel (Runs Against) Ice; sons Lester White Butterfly and Philbert White Butterfly; daughters Faith “Bonnie” White Butterfly, Cheryl Chase In Winter and Diane Chase In Winter; brother Bernard Ice Sr.; sister Verleane Ice; and granddaughters Katrina White Butterfly and Tessie Jack.
Pallbearers will be Floyd Bullman, William Plenty Arrows, Jesse Jack, Gene Jack, Lester Jack, Ben Jack, Charles Jack, Mike Chase, Lance Chase, Steve Chase, Craig Chase, Jeremy Chase In Winter, Casey Red Cloud, Jared Iron Horse, Ryan Charging Cloud, Richard Charging Cloud, and Nick Charging Cloud.
