Jean passed away on August 14, 2018 at Chadron Community Hospital in Chadron, NE. She was born on November 23, 1924 in Chadron, NE to James V.W. and Ethel May Skinkle. She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in May 1946, where she was also a member of AOπ Sorority.
On September 24, 1946, she married Richard A. Reitz to whom five children were born. For the remainder of their lives they resided in Chadron, where Jean was a dedicated nurturing, stay-at-home mother. Once her children were raised, Jean took employment outside the home with KCSR Radio station and John Miskimins Motor Company, where she enjoyed being the star in their TV commercials.
Jean enjoyed playing the piano, dancing, listening to music, her flowers on the patio, and most of all, enjoying her grandchildren’s many, many concerts in the living room. Another one of her greatest loves was golfing with her husband, kids, and friends. She was proud to be one of the original 23 members of the Chadron Women’s Golf Association.
Jean lived a life full of happiness and compassion and made everyone who knew her feel like part of her family. She is survived by children Judy (John) Tausan of Chadron, NE, James Reitz (Rhonda Allen) of Fort Worth, TX, Janice Strotheide of Chadron, NE, Jean Katherine (Patrick) Donahue of Sundance, WY, and daughter Joan Reitz of Chadron, NE; 12 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; sister Lorraine; and beloved husband Richard A. Reitz.
