Funeral services for Wilson Charles Gay Jr. “Wahinkpe Ska,” age 69, will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 7, 2018 at the Father Pauly Hall in Porcupine, SD with Father Edmund Yainao, S.J., and Bill White officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Francis “Chubbs” Thunder Hawk.
Burial will be at the Christ the King Catholic Cemetery in Porcupine, SD.
A two-night wake service will begin with the first night starting at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the Elderly Meals Building in Porcupine, SD. The second night wake service will start at 9:00 AM on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at the Father Pauly Hall in Porcupine, SD with services starting at 7:00 PM each night of the wake.
Wilson was a veteran in the U.S. Army.
Wilson was born on May 18, 1949 at home in Kyle, SD to Wilson Sr. and Gladys (Thunder Hawk) Gay. He made his journey to the Spirit World on August 29, 2018 at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.
Wilson is survived by wife Evelyn Gay of Kyle, SD; mother Gladys Gay of Kyle, SD; daughter Anita Gay of Kyle, SD; siblings Agnes Gay, Iris Gay, Anthony Gay, and Mary Ann Gay, all of Kyle, SD and Deborah Gay-Islam of Pasadena, CA; grandchildren Frankee Rose Means, Frank Louis Means II, Scott White Eyes, and Laila Soap; aunts Bernadette Thunder Hawk, Vincentia Thunder Hawk, and Genevieve Richard, all of Porcupine, SD; uncle Francis “Chubbs” Thunder Hawk of Porcupine, SD; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Wilson was preceded in death by father Wilson Gay Sr. and grandparents William and Nancy (Cloud Horse) Gay and Charles and Susan (Jealous of Him) Thunder Hawk.
