09/21/2018 - Leon 'Blaze' Folson
Funeral services for Leon “Blaze” Folson, age 69, will be at 12:00 PM on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, SD with Reverend Rhoda Mesteth officiating.
Burial will be at 3:30 PM on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Lakota Freedom Veteran’s Cemetery in Kyle, SD.
A one-night wake service will begin at 4:30 PM on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, SD with vigil services starting at 7:00 PM and roll call to follow.
Blaze was a veteran in the U.S. Army.
Blaze was born on January 9, 1949 in Pine Ridge, SD to Earl Folson and Myrtle Bergen. He passed away unexpectedly in Tucson, AZ on September 11, 2018.
Blaze served in the U.S. Army from 10/17/1974 to 03/19/1975 and was honorably discharged. Blaze touched so many lives during his lifetime. He was always willing to listen and lend a hand to someone in need. He moved back and forth between South Dakota and Arizona and stayed with his family in his later years. He was well loved and surrounded by his family during the last months of his life.
Blaze is survived by daughter Lauren Folson of Tucson, AZ; son Leon D. Folson of Santa Rosa, AZ; sister-in-law Malinda Folson of North Santa Rosa, AZ; nieces Lisa Folson of Wanum Ke’K, AZ, Anita Folson Vavages of Chuichu, AZ, Connie Folson of North Santa Rosa, AZ, and Katie Begay of Casa Grande, AZ; grandchildren Darren, Jesse, Kenneth, Katrina, Stephen, Toshia and Jericho Folson, Luke Vavages, Tessa Eleando, Ta’te, Mato and Masi Begay and Shawneen Arvicio; and great-grandchildren Vega, Delo, Marcos and Kimimila Folson.
Blaze was preceded in death by parents Earl Folson and Myrtle Bergen; brothers Harlan, “Punky,” Snooks, Chaunce, Fred, Timmy and Chipper Folson; nephew Lee Allen Folson; and niece Amy Folson.
