10/03/2018 - Martin 'Piya' Arapahoe
Funeral services for Martin Ellsworth “Piya” Arapahoe, age 67, will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at the Youth Center in Allen, SD with Father Ron Seminara, S.J., officiating. Traditional Lakota services are To Be Announced.
Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery in Allen, SD.
A one-night wake service will begin at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at the Youth Center in Allen, SD with Rosary services starting at 7:00 PM.
Martin was born on June 20, 1951 in Pine Ridge, SD to Herman Arapahoe and Alice Running Horse. He made his journey to the Spirit World on September 25, 2018 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Martin is survived by daughter Aveline Arapahoe and her mother, Margie Little Eagle, both of Rapid City, SD; grandson Andrew Scheitel of Cheyenne, WY; special friend Myrtle Spotted Elk of Wanblee, SD; and nieces and nephews Charlotte Arapahoe, Antoine Arapahoe, Justina Arapahoe, Jake Arapahoe, Victor Arapahoe, Joe Arapahoe Jr., Matthew Brown Bull, Madeline Plenty Arrows, and Maxine Broken Nose.
Martin was preceded in death by parents Herman Arapahoe and Alice Running Horse and siblings Newman Arapahoe, Dorothy Wilson, Philip Arapahoe, Wilfred Arapahoe, Victor Arapahoe, Charlotte Arapahoe, and Webster Arapahoe.
