Eric passed away at Porter Adventist Hospital in Denver, CO surrounded by his family and Heavenly Father on Friday, September 28, 2018. He was born on February 8, 1979 in Gordon, NE to Kenneth and Tracy (Lockmon) Hunter.
Eric grew up on his family’s cattle ranch south of Rushville, NE. Life on the ranch helped build Eric’s strong work ethic that he carried into his adulthood. He attended school in a rural one-room school through the 7th grade and graduated from Rushville High School in 1997. Eric was active in 4-H, baseball, wrestling, Science Olympiad and the Methodist youth group.
Following high school, Eric moved to Lincoln to pursue a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration with a major in Finance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He enjoyed attending Husker football games with his friends on the weekends. It was during college that he met his wife, Sara Johnson, and many friends that would remain close throughout his life. Eric and Sara were joined in marriage on May 12, 2002 in Florida on a cruise ship. They enjoyed celebrating anniversaries on cruises to the Caribbean. Carson Lee joined the family in May 2005, followed by Natalie Jane in June 2008. Eric’s good sense of humor and positive attitude brought smiles to others’ faces and always made story time a joy.
During Eric’s career in banking, he worked in mortgage lending, small business banking and branch management capacities for GB Home Equity and US Bank in Lincoln and North Platte, NE. While with US Bank, Eric received numerous awards including the Annual Pinnacle Award in 2010, earning a trip to Hawaii for him and Sara. During his time there, he was also involved with the TeamMates Mentoring Program and United Way. He most recently served as a Business Banker with Dacotah Bank in Rapid City, SD.
Eric loved spending time with his family and watching football, especially the Huskers and Broncos. In his free time, he also enjoyed home improvement projects, golfing and family movie nights. He loved the outdoors, enjoying hiking, biking, golfing, camping, and snowboarding and sharing these passions with his family. Eric’s love of animals began as a child on the ranch with his numerous pets: horses, bunnies, raccoons, dogs, turtles, and lizards. His love of animals has been passed down to his children, and the family has two dogs and two rabbits.
Survivors include wife of 16 years Sara of Rapid City, SD; son Carson; daughter Natalie; mother Tracy Hunter of Custer, SD; brother Ryan Hunter (Roxanna) of Rushville, NE; and other extended family and friends. Eric was preceded in death by father Kenneth Hunter.
