10/15/2018 - Sandra Marie Bush
A Mass of Christian Burial for Sandra Marie Bush, age 74, will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 15, 2018 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery in Pine Ridge, SD with Father Edmund Yainao, S.J., officiating.
Burial will be at 2:30 PM on Monday, October 15, 2018 at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
Wake services will begin at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Hall in Pine Ridge, SD with Rosary services starting at 7:00 PM at the church.
Sandra was born on July 17, 1944 in Pine Ridge, SD to Foster and Doris (Mesteth) Hawk Wing. She passed away on October 9, 2018 near Long Valley, SD.
Sandra grew up near Long Valley, SD and attended grade school at Crazy Horse Day School in Wanblee, SD. She graduated high school in 1964 in Pine Ridge at Holy Rosary. After high school, Sandra attended college in Dallas, TX, Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD, and Oglala Lakota College where she graduated with an Associate’s degree in Business Management and Social Work. She was a few credits away from obtaining her Bachelor’s degree.
On September 30, 1967, Sandra married the love of her life, Gerald Bush, and to this union ten children were born, Gerald Jr., Bradley, Luke, Terrolyn, Donna, Michele, Stephanie, Iris, Kristal, and Sharyl. Sandra enjoyed many activities with her family, including gardening, cooking, sewing, and making beautiful star quilts. She was truly the matriarch of her family.
During Sandra’s working career, she was a council woman for the Eagle Nest District, a member of the school board for Crazy Horse School, and she worked as a secretary for the Allen Day School. Sandra was also a parishioner of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Wanblee where she served as a lay minister for the church.
Sandra is survived by husband of 51 years Gerald Bush Sr. of Long Valley, SD; children Gerald Bush Jr. of Albuquerque, NM, Bradley Bush of Long Valley, SD, Luke Bush of Albuquerque, NM, Terrolyn Teague of McAlester, OK, Donna Janis-Whalen of Pine Ridge, SD, Michele Long Soldier of Long Valley, SD, Stephanie Bush of Rapid City, SD, Iris Bush and Kristal Bush of Wanblee, SD, and Sharyl Bush of Albuquerque, NM; 20 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Sandra was preceded in death by parents Foster and Doris Hawk Wing and grandchildren Serenity Bogue and Jude Bush.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Sandra Marie Bush.
