10/20/2018 - Lloyd James Janis

Funeral services for Lloyd James Janis, age 60, will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the Crazy Horse School in Wanblee, SD with Father Ron Seminara, S.J., officiating. Traditional Lakota service are To Be Announced.
 
Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Hisle, SD.
 
A two-night wake service will begin at 4:00 PM on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the Crazy Horse School in Wanblee, SD.
 
Lloyd was born October 21, 1958 in Douglas, WY to Leo Cleveland Janis and Anna Randall Janis. He made his journey to the spirit world on October 13, 2018 at his home in Wanblee, S.D.
 
Grateful to have shared in his life is wife of 38 years Karen DeCory Janis; daughters Tiffany (Victor) Castro of Blue River, KY and Trista (Josh) Janis of Ballground, GA; son Gordon (Heather) Janis of Wanblee, SD; brother Stanley (Marion) Janis of Parmelee, SD; sisters Sandra (Stanly Sr.) Janis, Amelia (Seth) Blackbear of Wanblee, SD, and Annie E. Janis of Fort Collins, CO; aunt Francine Red Willow of Wanblee, SD; grandchildren Tristan Janis, Beau and Bailian Randall, Kenyon Janis, Riley Schendoah, River and Anthony Fero, Gianna Janis, and twins on the way; and nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
 
Lloyd attended Crazy Horse School from Kindergarten to 12th grade, graduating in 1977. After he graduated from Crazy Horse School, he was employed at Livermont Grocery store as a manager. Lloyd then decided to further his education; he attended United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, ND where he earned his certificate in “Electrical” in 1982. He worked at Crazy Horse School for 30 years, two years as a paraprofessional, then as a Facilities Manager for 28 years. Lloyd was skilled in many areas, such as electrical, furnaces, air conditioning, plumbing and all other skills required to operate CHS efficiently. He was instrumental in acquiring the new gym floor at CHS and obtaining emergency funds. At the time of his death, Lloyd worked at Eagle Nest College Center in Wanblee. Lloyd had great pride and commitment in all that he accomplished.
 
Lloyd was preceded in death by parents Cleve and Annie Janis; brothers Melvin, Nick, Peter, and Paul Janis; sisters Belva Young and Linda Red Willow; maternal grandparents Margaret Hornbeck and Frank Randall; and paternal grandparents Benjamin “Tex” Janis and Mabel Rooks.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Lloyd James Janis.
