Memorial services for George Dale Hunter will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the Extension Community Chapel of Whiteclay with Butch Abold officiating.
Cremation has taken place and services will be held later.
A memorial has been established for the Hay Springs Volunteer Fire Department, and donations may be sent to Chamberlain Drabbels Mortuary, PO Box 443, Hay Springs, NE 69347.
Dale passed away on February 27, 2018 at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs, NE. He was born on December 28, 1936 in Rushville, NE to William Garnet and Elma Eitler Hunter. He was the youngest with two older sisters, Barbara and Marion. He attended Cavern Creek School through grade school, riding horseback and bicycle. Dale went to Arkansas with his uncle Ray Hunter and spent some time there. He worked in the hay fields putting up hay. He worked on the railroad a short time. He married Connie Hough in September 1957 and was divorced in 1961.
Dale joined the Army in September 1958, taking boot camp in Texas, and then was sent to Germany in 1959. He spent some time on the Berlin Wall and was honorably discharged in November 1960. Dale married Janice Schmidt on January 20, 1971. They lived on Dale’s home place on Beaver Wall for two years, moving to Janice’s grandparents’ place in December 1972, where they lived until September 2016 when they moved to Hay Springs for health reasons. Dale entered Pioneer Manor in May 2017.
Dale was preceded in death by parents Garnet and Elma; stepmother Wilma Hunter; sister Barbara Simms; and nephew Billy Dale Johnson. He leaves to mourn wife Janice; sister Marion Garwood of Belton, TX; and three nieces, three nephews, cousins and friends.
