Funeral services for Wydene D. High Pine, age 38, will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala, SD. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Richard Broken Nose and Apostle Pedro Sharpfish.
Burial will be at St. Peter’s Episcopal Cemetery in Oglala, SD.
A one-night wake service will begin at 5:00 PM on Monday, October 22, 2018 at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala, SD with evening services starting at 7:00 PM.
Wydene passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD. She was born on July 17, 1980 in Pine Ridge, SD to Franklin and Shirley (Jealous of Him) High Pine.
She graduated with Honors from Pine Ridge High School in 1999, where she met her significant other James Rowland. She had only one son, Cassius Rowland, on July 17, 2004. She worked multiple jobs, and her primary care and love was her son. Wydene truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, chatting with friends and family, and spending time with her niece and later nephews. She had a way of reaching people in a deep and positive way.
Wydene is survived by son Cassius Rowland; aunt Erdine Red Ear Horse; siblings Kathryn Blindman, Rose Blindman, Isaac Running Shield, Valentina Merdanian, Michelle High Pine, and Harland High Pine Jr.; maternal grandmother Catherine Jealous of Him; uncle Albert Jealous of Him; nieces and nephews Alexandria Merdanian-Montgomery, Russell Merdanian Jr., J.J. Brown, Destiny Short Bull, Faith Short Bull, Ashton Short Bull, Isaac Running Shield Jr., Summer Running Shield and Patricia “P.J.” Running Shield; mother-in-law Virginia Morrison; fathers-in-law Bill Morrison and Ronald Rowland; and in-laws Rose, Marion, Philip, Tylor, Benton and Arlin Rowland.
Wydene was preceded in death by father Franklin D. High Pine; mother Shirley Jealous of Him-High Pine; paternal grandparents Matthew High Pine and Eunice Red Ear Horse; maternal grandfather Roy Jealous of Him; uncle Harland High Pine Sr.; aunts Neomi Jealous of Him and Audrey Martinez; and significant other James Rowland.
