10/29/2018 - Loretta Gail Lone Elk

Funeral services for Loretta Gail Lone Elk “Maza Win,” age 49, will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 29, 2018 at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala, SD with Sister Barb officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Samuel Moves Camp.

Burial will be at the He Crow Family Cemetery in Slimbuttes, SD.
 
A one-night wake service will begin at 1:30 PM on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala, SD with rosary services starting at 7:00 PM.
 
Loretta was born on February 4, 1969 in Pine Ridge, SD to James “Dr. Jim” A. Lone Elk II and Norma L. He Crow. She made her journey to the Spirit World in October 2018 in Rapid City, SD.
 
Loretta was one of four children, Charlotte Lone Elk, James Lone Elk III, Wade Lone Elk, and herself. She graduated from Pine Ridge High School, formerly known as Oglala Community School, in 1987. Loretta attended Oglala Lakota College and also worked as a nursing assistant for many years.
 
Loretta traveled all over the western states. She lived in Oregon and worked as an In-Home Provider. She also worked at the Indian Health Service Hospital for a while. She enjoyed being able to help the people.
 
Loretta had the biggest heart. She always made sure that everyone around her was taken care of. She made sure that everyone who came into her home left with a full belly and a jacket on their back. She was an awesome “Grandma Letta” to her grandchildren, Bethanie and Wicahpi. She always showed them love and affection. Loretta was the caretaker of her family and friends, especially when they needed her most.
 
Loretta is survived by significant other Kevin “Cakes” Bear Heels; daughters Rebecca “Becky” Lone Elk and Darrelyn Standing Soldier; sons Eric Standing Soldier, Adonis Lone Elk and Aaron Lakota, all of Oglala, SD; son-in-law TaSagye Moves Camp; nieces Mahpiya Lone Elk, Morgan Lone Elk, and Jennifer, Veronica and Tonya Hallman; nephew Rudy Lone Elk; grandchildren Bethanie and Wicahpi Okicamna Lone Elk, Waniyetu Tall, Sidney Mennis III, and Destiny and Ava Brown; grandmother Josephine; mother-in-law Virginia Black Elk; aunts Cindy, Karen, Audrey and Melda; uncles Claire, Goo Bear, Dale, Pernell, and Luke; and cousins Janet, Darwin, Barb, Debbie, Lupita, Lucinda, Mike, Summer, Olivia, Darlene, Merlinda, Todd, Tyrone, Laura, Tim, Daniel, Milo, Amanda, Elsie, Henry, Priscilla and Dennis.
 
Loretta was preceded in death by parents James and Norma; siblings Junior, Charlotte and Wade; grandparents Jim and Mae Lone Elk and Moses and Eva He Crow; and all family and beloved friends that passed on before her.  
 
Loretta is now reunited with her parents and siblings whom she missed and loved every day.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Loretta Gail Lone Elk “Maza Win.”
