Victor passed to the spirit world on October 20, 2018 in Pine Ridge, SD. He was born to Rebecca Cuny-Goings and Roland C. Goings on January 2, 1952 in Pine Ridge SD.
Victor attended primary and middle school in Pine Ridge, SD and then went to high school at Marty Indian School in Marty, SD.
Victor worked various jobs during his life, starting at the PCC/Head Start as transportation and maintenance coordinator, working there for 20 plus years. While at Head Start as transportation coordinator, he developed a transportation plan that was recognized and utilized as the model plan for Indian Country. His efforts to have the best and safest school bus system showed his commitment to his job and compassion for the children. Later Vic worked for O.S.T. Department of Water Maintenance Conservation in Kyle and Pine Ridge as a maintenance/groundskeeper until the time of his passing.
Victor was a very private but happy person and always had a warm smile for everyone he met. He loved to go fishing with his brother in-law Ron Talbot and sister Melody on Sunday afternoons. Victor was well known for his shade tree mechanic skills, and he always helped friends and relatives keep their vehicles running well.
His son Troy said a favorite time he remembers spending with his dad was when he could help Vic work on a car and hand him the tools. Vic and his brothers were known around town as the “Hot Rod Brothers” because they always had their vehicles looking super cool. His oldest son was always proud to be able to drive his dad’s vehicle on special occasions, like prom or homecoming. Heather always remembers cruising around with Vic listening to CCR. Angel will always cherish her wedding day when her dad gave her away, and she was also happy that her husband Mike and her dad got along really well as they had cars in common. Alecia and Casandra have special memories of their dad. They are grateful that he called them often and talked about his day and asked about their day. The girls will hold those long visits they had with him near to their hearts. Alecia and Casandra say Vic taught them a lot about cars and has inspired Alecia to maybe go to mechanic school someday. Vic was close to Alecia’s boyfriend, Jerrel Rodriguez. They would spend time together working on cars and took trips to one of Vic’s favorite places to eat, The China House in Chadron, NE. Vic loved to joke and make everyone laugh and would often joke about his “blonde” moments when he was forgetful.
Victor loved his children and grandchildren, and he always bragged about them as he was very proud of their accomplishments. He loved his family and had an especially close bond to his sister, Joyce. Vic was well liked by his co-workers and became close friends with many of them.
Vic will be greatly missed by his family and friends. They are comforted to know that he is in a better place now surrounded by love, happiness and is probably driving a Hot Rod around in Heaven!
Victor is survived by children Angel (Mike) Shellito, Travis Goings, Troy Goings, Heather Goings, Alecia Goings, Casandra Goings, and Jeffery Twiss; grandchildren Jay (Cortney) Meverden, Kyla (Chance) Jensen, Maycee Shellito, Kylie Goings, Bryson Goings, Cade Goings, Tianna Goings, Tayliah Rodriguez, Jodessa Rodriguez, Jerrel Rodriguez Jr., Anthony Steele, Alayciah Steele, Aubreigh Steele, Darlene Twiss, and Michael Looking Elk; great-grandchildren Spencer, Nevaeh, and Jhayda Meverden and Aaden, Noah, and Maliyah Jensen; sisters Melody R.
