Funeral services for John Bissonette “Cante Waste’ Wica’ku,” age 57, will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the Woyatan Lutheran Church in Rapid City, SD with Pastor Elton Yellow Boy officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Chief Leonard Crow Dog and assisted by Nephew Merle Left Hand Bull with the Wambli Ska Drum Group.
Burial will be at 12:00 PM on Monday, November 26, 2018 at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
A one-night wake service will start at 4:00 PM on Friday, November 23, 2018 at the Woyatan Lutheran Church in Rapid City, SD with evening services starting at 7:00 PM.
John was a veteran in the U.S. Airforce.
John was born on June 8, 1961 in Pine Ridge, SD to Jackson V. Bissonette and Sylvia (Stabber) Bissonette. He made his journey to the Spirit World on November 19, 2018 at the Fort Meade VA Hospital in Sturgis, SD.
John is survived by children John S. Bissonette of Rochester, NY, Mary A. Bissonette of Saratoga Springs, UT, Raymond J. Bissonette of New York City, NY, and Emma L. Bissonette of Shanghai, China; siblings Patty Bissonette of Rapid City, SD, Mike Bissonette of Murfreesboro, TN, James Bissonette of Red Lake, MN, Genevieve Bissonette of Rapid City, SD, and Janelle Doughty of Lincoln, NE; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
John was preceded in death by parents Jackson and Sylvia Bissonette and siblings Jackson M. Bissonette, Clement M. Bissonette, Donald J. Bissonette, and Stephen E. Bissonette.
