Funeral services for Charlene Kathy Janis “Tasunke Ska Win,” age 59, will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 3, 2018 at the Little Wound Elementary School Gym in Kyle, SD with Father Ron Seminara, S.J., officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Jerome LeBeaux.
Burial will be at St. Stephen’s Catholic Cemetery in Kyle, SD.
A two-night wake service will begin at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the Little Wound Elementary School Gym in Kyle, SD with evening services starting at 7:00 PM each night.
Charlene was born on December 3, 1958 in Pine Ridge, SD to Donald Janis and Viola (Red Owl) Janis. She made her journey to the Spirit World on November 22, 2018 at the Rapid City Regional Health Home Plus Hospice in Rapid City, SD.
Charlene is survived by children Kristy Pourier (Jeremy) of Thunder Valley, SD and Robert Janis, Brendon Janis, Contessia Shangreaux, Latina Shangreaux (Catlin Fraser), TaShina Shangreaux and Cameron Janis, all of Kyle, SD; brothers Taylor Janis (Toni Ferguson) of Kyle, SD, Alvin Janis of Pine Ridge, SD, and Calvin Janis (Missy) of Lawrence, KS; grandkids De’Shane, De’Shawn, De’Ontae and De’Juan Pourier, Dawson and Tay’Vion Rooks, Marques and Avery Hawkins, Armani Whirlwind Horse, Brielle Janis, Kaylee Mesteth, Kyrie Shangreaux, Jazlyn and Jaxson Fraser, Donnie Ferguson Jr., and Dredyn Ferguson; aunts Lenora Watters and Anita “Penny” Janis; nephews Dustin and Donnie Ferguson and Carson Janis; nieces A’Leigha and America Janis; special friend Leland “Joe” Shangreaux; and dog Lucky.
Charlene was preceded in death by parents Donald and Viola (Red Owl) Janis; son JoDon Shangreaux; brothers Donnie, Archie, Alan and Bryan Janis; nephews Trevor Iron Cloud and Shylo Pierce; cousins Rod Janis, Bob, Mark and Joe Hornbeck; grandparents Josephine “Tootsie” Janis and Roy Janis; aunts Aqualynne Garnette, Marion Gray, Geraldine Janis and Marge Janis; uncles Wilbert, Gilbert, Ardie, Sunshine, Gerald, Lynn Mervin, Delbert, and Baby Boy Janis; and sons-in-law Kyle Mesteth and Eli “Jason” Feather Earring.
Pallbearers will be Duane Janis, Robin Janis, Steve Pourier, Dean Two Crow, Greg Towry, and Howard Rooks.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Charlene Kathy Janis “Tasunke Ska Win.”
