A one-night wake service for Jennifer Laurice Red Shirt “Tasina Luta Wi,” age 47, will start at 4:00 PM on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the Father Pauly Hall in Porcupine, SD with evening services starting at 7:00 PM with Pastor Alex Bad Bear officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Francis “Chubbs” Thunder Hawk.
Cremation will follow.
Jennifer was born on August 24, 1971 in Pine Ridge, SD to Laurence Vine Red Shirt and Roberta Joyce Whiting. She made her journey to the Spirit World on December 5, 2018 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Jennifer is survived by children Keisha (Joey) Carbajal of Gordon, NE, Lauren Pourier of Sioux Falls, SD, and Elaina Pourier of Rapid City, SD; mother Roberta Whiting of Porcupine, SD; mother who raised her Ellen McCoy Red Shirt of Greensboro, NC; sisters Catherine Keeton and Breann Whiting of Rapid City, SD and Janet Whiting of Rockyford, SD; brothers Osceola Red Shirt of Tahlequah, OK, Wanbli Red Shirt of Pine Ridge, SD, and Jason Jack of Sharps Corner, SD; grandchildren Ciara Carbajal, Joey Carbajal III, Alicia Hess, Harmony Good Voice Elk, Leila Carbajal, Jonathon Carbajal Jr., and Lillian Carbajal; and cousins Sean Red Shirt of Connecticut, Brandon Red Shirt of Minneapolis, MN, Vanessa Little Bull, Darlene Hawk Wing, Andrea Hawk Wing, and Joey Apodaco, all of Rapid City, SD, Mick Hawk Wing of Sioux Falls, SD, Viola Apodaca of Colorado, Virgil Hawk Wing II of Wounded Knee, SD, and Robin Red Shirt of Albuquerque, NM.
Jennifer was preceded in death by father Laurence Vine Red Shirt; grandparents Winnie White Face-Red Shirt and Seth Red Shirt; sisters Lorelei Red Shirt and Beth Red Shirt; and brother Laurence Red Shirt Jr.
