12/11/2018 - Thelma (Yellow Horse) Brown Eyes
Funeral services for Thelma Bernice (Yellow Horse) Brown Eyes, age 85, will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Ridge, SD with Pastor Cecelia Spotted Bear officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Scotty Brown Eyes.
Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery in Slim Buttes, SD.
A one-night wake service will begin at 1:00 PM on Monday, December 10, 2018 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Ridge, SD with evening services starting at 7:00 PM.
Thelma was born on March 10, 1933 at home in Wounded Knee, SD to Leonard and Fanny (Running Shield) Yellow Horse. She made her journey to the Spirit World on December 4, 2018 at the Seven Sisters Living Center in Hot Springs, SD.
Thelma is survived by children Gloria Brown Eyes-One Feather, Denise Brown Eyes, Cecelia Brown Eyes, and Peter Brown Eyes Jr., all of Rapid City, SD; grandchildren Terri (Warren) Iron Cloud-Cross of Oglala, SD, Pamela Iron Cloud, Kristina Iron Cloud, Brandon (Shane) One Feather, Robert Brown Eyes, Tanner Brown Eyes, Bernard Atkins, Julian Brown Eyes, Donovan Brown Eyes, Shawn Brown Eyes, Alexis Brown Eyes, Jayma Brown Eyes, and Donnie Brown Eyes, all of Rapid City, SD, Leigh (Ohitika) Tasso and Delia Atkins of Bismarck, ND, April (Jesse) Byerly of Martin, SD, Justina Brown Eyes of Slim Buttes, SD, Will Lame of Sacarro, NM, and Elizabeth Brown Eyes and Lori Brown Eyes of Pine Ridge, SD; and great-grandchildren Douglas Cross, Warren Sherlock Cross, Tyra Black Elk, Lejandro Black Elk, Saelee Tasso, Sage Tasso, Taylor, Ryder, and Skylar Byerley, Wiconi Brown Eyes, Tatum and Bernice Brewer, Tavian Brown Eyes, Talia Iron Cloud, Sienna Penigeo, and Sequoia Iron Cloud.
Thelma was preceded in death by husband Peter Brown Eyes; sisters Velma Lame, Pearl McClain, and Shirley Yellow Horse; brothers Melvin Yellow Horse and Maurice Yellow Horse; son Norman Brown Eyes; daughters Vanna Brown Eyes and Pam Brown Eyes; sister-in-law Marie Red Cloud; grandsons Peter Iron Cloud, Thomas Brown Eyes, and Adam Brown Eyes; and granddaughter Kimberly Brown Eyes.
Pallbearers will be Jesse Byerly, Julian Brown Eyes, Warren Cross, Donovan Brown Eyes, Brandon One Feather, Robert Brown Eyes, Will Lame, Bernard Atkins, Justin Peters, Charlie Little Spotted Horse, Jesse Peters, Jason Piper, Douglas Cross, Roscoe Todd, Corbin Yellow Horse, Jimmy James Roan Eagle, Don Yellow Horse, Wes Yellow Horse, Dean Yellow Horse, Willard Yellow Horse, and Lenny Yellow Horse.
