Graveside funeral services for Zara Christine Lays Bad, age 81, will be at 9:00 AM on Friday, December 14, 2018 at the Elderly Meals Building in Porcupine, SD. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by David Lays Bad.

Burial will be at the Body of Christ Cemetery in Porcupine, SD.

A one-night wake service will begin at 4:30 PM on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the Elderly Meals Building in Porcupine, SD with evening services starting at 7:00 PM.

Christine was born on January 13, 1937 in Pine Ridge, SD to James and Millie (Walker) Lays Bad. The beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother entered into eternity on December 7, 2018 in Manford, OK. She made the best out of life with those 81 years here on earth.

Christine was humble, loving, and greeted you with a smile and family with a huge hug. She had amazing drawing abilities and made the best frybread ever, both of which will dearly be missed.

She was ambitious in life and in all that she did. One of the many ways she was unique was going through life being deaf and only knowing how to speak Lakota. Although she is missed deeply, it is good to know that she knew the Lord. And that brings great joy that she will be cheering everyone on from Heaven. So, as you know, it’s never goodbye, but until we meet again.

Christine is survived by daughter Irene Maker of Tulsa, OK; brother Redding Lays Bad; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Christine was preceded in death by parents James and Millie Lays Bad; son Verdell Lays Bad; brothers Ramsey, Francis, and Everett Lays Bad; and sisters Sadie Henry and Agnes Lays Bad.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Zara Christine Lays Bad.
