01/07/2019 - Steven 'Steve' Bowker
A memorial service for Steven “Steve” Larry Bowker, age 69, of Big Piney, WY, formerly from the Oral / Smithwick / Oelrichs, SD area, will be at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Prairie View United Methodist Church near Smithwick, SD. All are welcome.
Steve passed away at his home in Big Piney on December 28, 2018 after a year-long battle with lung cancer. In typical Steve fashion to the very end, “He made the days count…he did not count the days.”
Steve was born on July 14, 1949 in Hot Springs SD to Lyle and Marie Bowker, the youngest of six sons. He grew up on the family ranch in the Oral/Smithwick area and attended schools in Smithwick and Oelrichs where many lifelong friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren remain. He very much enjoyed the family ranch, hunting and fishing with family. He could fix about anything and enjoyed keeping the old worn out farm tractors, old trucks, farm machinery, four-wheelers, motorcycles, and son Kenny’s boats in repair. To him, “One man’s junk was another man’s treasure.” He could and would make it run!
Survivors include wife Cindy and children of Big Piney, WY; son Kenny, granddaughter Samantha, and great-granddaughters Journey and Kinlee of Hot Springs, SD; son Kevin of Sioux Falls, SD; grandson Boone Bowker (Brittney) and great-grandchildren Halyn and Nash of Gordon, NE; brothers Dennis (Meta) of Hot Springs, SD and Gary (Dixie) of Lakewood, CO; very special “Gramma” Leona Dryden of Oelrichs, SD; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Gene, Don and Bob.
During the past 40 years, Steve did mechanic work, drove truck and worked the Wyoming oil fields in numerous jobs and towns. He retired from EOG in Big Piney in 2016.
He very much enjoyed golfing with his good friends in Kemmerer and Pinedale, attending sporting events, following grandson Boone’s college football career, boating and fishing with children and grandchildren, and the annual Bowker “Boys” deer hunt with his brothers, nephews and long-time friends. He was most generous to all!
