A Mass of Christian Burial for Rhiannon Dee (Schreiner) Janis, age 35, will be at 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Ridge, SD with Carol LaDeaux and Father Joe Daoust, S.J., officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Richard Giago and Joey Giago.
Burial will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Mission Cemetery in Pine Ridge, SD.
A one-night wake service will start at 3:00 PM on Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Ridge, SD with Rosary Services starting at 7:00 PM.
Rhiannon passed away on December 27, 2018 in Pine Ridge, SD.
On January 11, 1983, Rhiannon was born to Jay Sr. and Pamla (Roberts) Schreiner in Fairbanks, AK. Rhiannon traveled the world with her parents and younger siblings, Tasheena and Jay Jr. as they followed their father’s military career. Rhiannon lived in Fairbanks, AK, Tacoma, WA, Vincenza, Italy, Colorado Springs, CO, Nuremburg, Germany, Gordon, NE, and Pine Ridge, SD. She went to elementary school in Germany, Gordon Elementary, and Wolf Creek Elementary. She loved being “home” in Pine Ridge and being around her Grandma Ann. She attended Red Cloud High School and graduated in 2001, and from there she went to college in Haskell, KS and then moved back and finished two Associate of Arts Degrees in Early Childhood and Business Administration. At Oglala Lakota College, she continued taking classes to complete her Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Development. She finished and received her Child Development Association Certification.
Rhiannon met and fell in love with Leon Janis Jr., and they have been together since 2003. However, she had a crush on him since eighth grade. To this loving union, four beautiful children were born, Leon III, JayAnn, Anna, and Pamela. Rhiannon enjoyed each of her children and loved how they lifted her life with love. Leon and Rhiannon were married on May 31, 2015 at Sunshine Valley Gardens in the beautiful Black Hills.
Rhiannon is survived by loving husband Leon Janis Jr.; beloved children Leon III, JayAnn, Anna Louise, and Pamela Jaye Janis, all of Pine Ridge, SD; brothers Jay (Tahnee Black Feather) Schreiner Jr. and Theodore “TJ” (Heather) Ferguson of Rapid City, SD and Lane Bissonette and Brandon Schreiner Sr. of Pine Ridge, SD; sister Tasheena (Jesse) Red Wing of Pine Ridge, SD; uncles Brandon Schreiner and Mike Akers of Pine Ridge, SD and Eugene Roberts Jr. and Norman Roberts of Fairbanks, AK; aunts Jodi (Ned) Johns of Gordon, NE, Paulette Schreiner, Andrea Akers, and JoAnn Pourier, all of Pine Ridge, SD, Lori (Robert) Clarke of Alexandria, LA, and Jackie Jensen and Brenda Meeker of Fairbanks, AK; grandparents Dell and Esther Hayward of Anchorage, AK, Eugene Roberts Sr. and Marie Jenson of Fairbanks, AK, Josephine Richards of Denby, SD, LaVonne Richards of Umatilla, OR, Richard LaPointe of Rapid City, SD, and Jim and Goldie Knoderer of St. Cloud, FL; father-in-law Leon Janis Sr. and mother-in-law Linda Grass, both of Pine Ridge, SD; nieces, nephews, and cousins Charlee, Harlee, Michael Bobby, Jaylee, Taysean, Kaia, Whitney (Rich), Tianna (Michael), Tyra, Tom, Anthony, Celeste, Ashley, Celiese, Lainey, Dylan, Jensen (Don), Brandon Jr., Telfore, Karlie, Nevaeh, Tate, Xavien, Jeremy, and Jesse; godchildren Cecelia Two Two, Madison Brown, and Treasure Sitting Holy; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Rhiannon was preceded in death by dearly missed parents Jay and Pamla Schreiner; grandparents Robert and Anna Schreiner, Leroy “Show” Richards, Leonard Richards, Delbert and Elfrieda Amiotte, Calvin and Beulah Pourier, Ramona LaPointe, and William Schreiner; great-grandparents Esaw and Elsie Roberts, Martha and Christopher Charlie, Theodore Richards, Emil Albert and Zona Pourier, and Paul Schreiner; uncles Charles Schreiner and Richard Schreiner; and aunt Annette Roberts.
Pallbearers will be Michael Akers, Lane Bissonette, Jesse Red Wing, Donald Richards, Brandon Schreiner Sr., Theodore “TJ” Ferguson, Terry Richards, and Garren Wilson.
